Am in the middle of a 1,000 rd. run of .45 acp.Dumping powder, seating bullets on one press, crimping on a second press.I don't mind the time it takes on a single stage, kinda relaxing, besides, its 5 degrees outside.

So my boy comes home(yea,he lives with me and the mrs.)with his daughter. He has joint custody.I come up stairs to say hello and the granddaughter wants to go downstairs to get some toys.Well grandpa is in the middle of reloading, why don't we play with my toys.

I get a stool for her so she can reach the table top,and have her hand me a case.I throw a powder charge, place the case in the bullet seating press. She hands me a bullet and I place it on the case and let her pull the lever. She then removes the loaded cartridge, hands it to me so I can crimp it.I hand it back to her so she can put it in the plastic ammo box.

I could not believe how much fun we were having dancing. She would put an empty case on her finger(because she could and grandpa couldn't.His fingers are too big.)and hand it to me this way every time, squealing with delight when I took it off her finger, everytime!!

Took probably a 1/2 hour to do 20 rds. but it sure was worth it.I have enjoyed reloading for 20 some years, but this session was by far the funnest.Did I mention she'll turn 2 yrs. old next month. Smiler

My Grandson helps me do that while loading Shot shells on my MEC. He hands me the empty case, and takes out the finished one and puts in the box.

Keeps him off the TV, as he is a bit young for a cell phone or texting..

I've been through that scenario with three children, and am now going through it again with two grandchildren. The grandchildren are so demanding of reloading opportunities that I have a hard time shooting up enough ammunition to generate work for them.

When our first grandchild spent his first overnight with us at about age 2.5, he loved placing brass in loading trays. When I left for work in the morning, I left his grandmother with six empty 60-round trays and a whole bag full of .223 empties.

My cell phone rang about fifteen minutes after leaving with Granma on the phone and desperate: "Do you have any more of those little trays? He's filled them all up and is demanding more!" "No, that's all the trays I've got", I responded, "Just take a break for some milk and cookies and while he's eating those just dump the shells back into the sack and have him load the same trays again". Thank goodness, this ruse worked.

My grandaughter helps me all the time. I pay her to lube cases while I size. Works great and love to spend time with her. She is also my shooting buddy at times. She is only eight,so we have lots of time to spend together.

I remember when I was a kid and would visit my grandparents, I would visit their neighbor. He shot NRA Bullseye competition with his 22/38/45 autos. He cast bullets for the 38/45. I would go over to his barn when he was casting/reloadinug and assist him. Got me hooked at a young age. I truly loved those sessions and haven't thought of it for 3+ decades until reading this post.

Thanks prplbkrr

My oldest son who is now 16 has helped me since he was little bitty, my other son is now 7 and he got the bug too at a young age, for both of them their favorite part was pressing in the bullet cuz when your done with that you have a finished cartridge and thats what all the prep is about.
We have had some fun times doing this even though it takes about twice as long when they "help" I wouldn't want it any other way.

When my daughter was about 4, she would help me when I was loading 45acp with cast 200swc and 4.5gr bullseye. After I seated bullets, she would wipe off excess lube and place each round in it's ammo box.

When we finished, each time she would announce to the rest of the family that she'd helped daddy "clean" bullets.

In March she turns 30.

Sometimes I wish my kids didn't have to grow up.

I wish the same for myself......sometimes.

The night before I go on a hunt, I have my little boy load up a couple-three rounds and mark them with a sharpie. And when I return I always thank him for making me that special "bullet." Done that since he was 5 or 6.

I have received help from three of my six grandsons. The amount of help seems to be in direct proportion to their age. At 6 to 10, they are very eager, but the help time is short. When teenagers, the help time is longer, if the whip is used wisely. I am hoping one will get the bug like grandad. Good shooting.

Good stuff right there, Congrats.

My daughter helps me clean brass. She's 7 and she always wants to help. Plus she likes shooting with me.

Sunday evening I was in my garage resizing some new 300 WM brass when my wife brought my 17 month old out to see 'da da'. She was standing there holding my son and after about the second case being resized, he decided he could push the lever on the press down and help, and smile the biggest cheesiest smile with 6 shiny white teeth anyone has ever seen. Big Grin After about 15 cases momma was ready to go back inside but I think I might have a helper in the coming years too!

I became a dad at 40 so I have had the pleasure of my daughter and older boy helping with reloading. The youngest is not interested in shooting or hunting. My older son will come in any time to help. Spent primers were very popular toys & play money & would turn up in odd places in the house!

Thanks for posting. Big Grin thumb
