I made this inquiry early last year at Quality Cartridge. At the time, the response was:

We have not had any requests for correct headstamped 375 Taylor brass until now. It can be done. Cost is $33.97/20. 200 piece minimum (1st order only). If you have any questions, we will be more than happy to help.

Thank you,

Pete at Quality Cartridge

I'm not sure if that still holds, but I didn't think it was too bad for custom brass at the time. I still have one action left here that I think is destined to be a 375 Taylor.

At $340 per 200 pieces it's not really a bad deal.....spendy maybe but still not bad.....I wonder if any others would be excited in a group buy?

I thought it was reasonable for what you'd be getting as well. It's cheaper than 375 Wby or 416 Rigby brass, for example. If had my rifle done, I'd be ready for a group order. I'll have to pass for now. Maybe some others would be interested?

My 375 Taylor brass is headstamped ".338 Win" or ".458 Win." and costs me, at most, 35 cents per case. Why would I want to pay $1.70 (5 times more!) for the sake of it being stamped 375 Taylor? Acutally, 375 T brass with the 458 Win headstamp is the COOLEST. Not too many can figure out why I have a shoulder on these.

Because there are a very few places where the gun laws are so restrictive that one may not bring in ammunition unless he has a gun chambered for it. Yes....dumber than rocks.....but that's the Republic of South Africa for one!!!

It is conceivable that at the airport they might see that the gun is stamped .375 Taylor and the ammo is for a 338 win mag. and would not be allowed into the country.

This is a remote chance but it's the law there and a few other places as I understand it.

The reason is simply to not take chances with idiots at the airports.

One would shoot cases marked 338 WM all the time unless traveling abroad hunting and then he'd take 40-50 rounds marked the same as the barrel.

Hunting RSA not on my docket right now.

I've heard this one before. Has anyone REALLY had this happen to them?

"not take chances with idiots at the airports"

You do this pretty much every time you set foot in an airport. They are called TSA.

Hey Vapodog, Would it be possible to "pre-ship" the ammo via UPS or FedX to the Outfitter?

The same Laws you mention might preclude that as a possibility. If it was possible and you could do that, then perhaps the problem would not exist.

Hot core.....I've looked at every angle and this is for sure.....if the outfitter don't have a 375 Taylor he can't have the ammo...it's their law.

Shipping even empty cases to some of these countries is not legal either. If the outfitter has the same gun as I do he can go to the store and buy it for me and have it ready when I get there. However he's only allowed a limiter number of rounds of ammo.....so this becomes difficult as well....he may have used his allowance for other customers......further he won't have the Northforks or A-Frames I like to hunt with.

Believe me.....we don't know how good we have it in the good old US of A./ Our 2nd ammendment has done a lot for us.

That's good to know.....if that's the case then I can just have my barrel stamped .375/338 also

I'm working on several VZ-24 Mausers right now. One is destimed to become a 280 Rem, one a 338-06 and one a .375 Taylor. I just can't bring myself to weaken the front ring to take the .375 H&H like the FNs and Zastava have done.

The Taylor fit's the actions well as it does many other standard magnum actions and looses nothing to the old .375 H&H.

For african hunting one only needs 50 brass for the trip and he can use standard 338 brass locally as there's no need for custom brass locally. An order of 200 brass would serve four hunters possibly. At $85 a man can have 50 rounds stamped to match his rifle and no worries with idiots at the airport.......now that's worth something.
