If you all had a 243 win an all you could get for it is 75gr/80gr/85/gr bullets.an you only get one [powder]. which powder would you chose AN WHY. please don throw the rocks so hard lol. would app: all help thankyou.

H414, because I would use 4350 for the heavy bullets.

I get the best results in my .243Win with IMR4064 in almost all bullet weights. It's a pain in the butt to meter from the hopper but gives excellent results. IMR4895 works well also. Best wishes.

For 58 grain - 85 grain bullets in the 243, I also use IMR 4064.

IMR-4831 and I would prefer 87gr V-max...

Quickload says IMR4350 would work well for all those bullet weights. All are hot loads! 24 inch barrel, 2.71 COL, reduce 10% and work up.

75 gr Sierra/47.4gr/ 3456 fps/55000 psi
80 gr Sierra/46.4gr/ 3368 fps/55000 psi
85 gr Sierra/45.4gr/ 3283 fps/55000 psi

Hodgdon H414 beats out IMR4350 very slightly according to Quickload, but I've found Quickload to be optimistic about H414 in the past. The IMR powders usually come out very close to prediction.

I liked IMR 4064 but got the same accuracy and more velocity with IMR 4350.

In my .243 I use 58gr. to 85gr. bullets. In the last few months I have been playing with IMR7383 and getting some surprisingly accurste results in the .243. Why do I use 7383?? It's dirt cheap for starters ($24.00/7# jug).If you use it you might want to use magnum primers, but I have had success with mag. and std. From my experience you won't have to worry about overloading. You can't get that much powder in the case.

I also have a thing for 4759. It is great for reduced loads and nomatter where I have used it, the performance has always been outstanding. That includes the .243. T&T is advertising it for $75.00/5#jug. roger

Festus, If I had to use only one powder for my .243Win. (Ruger #1, 26" bbl.) for the bullet weights you listed, it would be (and is) IMR 4350. For ex., 42gr. and the 75gr. Speer HP -> 3,100 fps; SD was 19. 42gr. with the 85gr. Sierra SP -> 3,066 fps; SD was 32. Both loads were extremely accurate. However, Bartsche's use of IMR 7383 should also be given serious consideration, but it max's out at ~43gr. for the bullets mentioned above. ...Maven

With the 85grain HPBT sierra, VARGET has given me excellent velocity and accuracy.

Redneck. Lot's of luck on WMR. Winchester quit making it for sale about two ot three years ago. I understand Graf's might have some but it's long gone. Really pisses me off as my .300 Win. mag. realy sings with that powder.
