I need reloading datas for the .32-40, especialy for Vitavouri or Rottweil propelant. The only datas I found are with IMR or Alliant and this´s to difficult to get in germany. Thanks, Martin | ||

If you can find any data for IMR 4895, you may want to consider using a similar amount of Vihtavouri N-135. I have done that with a number of different cartridges, from the .30-BR to the .45-70 Government, and it always worked out well for me so far. In each instance, the VV-N135 produced very slightly less pressures (in-so-far as one can guestimate them from the brass). If you can find any data for IMR 3031, that would almost certainly be a safe starting point for the use of the same VV N-135. Best wishes....... If it helps, the Lyman Reloading Handbook, 44th edition from 1967 has some loading data for the old line of IMR powders in the 32-40 for a 170 grain jacketed bullet. For IMR 4895 they list a starting load of 27 grs which gives a velocity of 1648 fps. Their max load for IMR 4895 is 30 grs for a velocity of 1892 fps. They used a Winchester Model 94 with a 20" barrel for these statistics. For lead bullets they used a Win Mod 94 with a 26" barrel and the powder they recommended for a 164 gr cast bullet was Unique; Start: 6.0 grs for 1189 fps Max: 8.2 grs for 1400 fps. For the 184 gr cast lead bullet they recommended IMR 4227 Start: 12.0 gr for 1158 fps Max: 14.5 gr for 1365 fps Hope this helps Barstooler | |||

Note: The preceding information was for the 32-40 Remington/Winchester/Ballard, and should not be used in the 32-40 "Bullard" I also found another source book (Cartridges of the World, 10 edition) that states you can use 16 grs of IMR 4895 as the min load for a 165 gr lead bullet producing 1410 fps --- and their max listed load for a 165 gr lead bullet with IMR 4895 is 22grs for 1865 fps. Gee, I'm sorry I cannot help you. I had a C. Sharps Arms New Model 1875 in .32/40, and with IMR 3031, Hodgdon H332, and Alliant RE 7 I was able to develop loads for that rifle (28" bnarrel) that equalled or beat .32 Winchester Special velocities, coupled with great accuracy. At least one load was almost the equivalent of the .300 Savage, using a Hornady 150-grain 8mm bullet...... Note that these are hot loads, and worked well in the strong Sharps action. They would also be suitable for an excellent condition Model 94 Winchester with nickel-steel barrel. But they should be worked up to, not used as a starting load!! My IMR 3031 load with the 150-grain bullet was 32 grains, and for the 165-grain bullet, I used 28 grains of 3031. Both were very good loads. MV for the 165-grain bullet (or a lead 170-grainer with the same powder chgarge) was right at 1900 FPS, and for the 150 grain 8mm (.323") it was 2350 FPS. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. If the Australian ADI powders are available in Germany, they have some limited load data. It is, though, at the HV pressures, not BP pressures. Hodgdon has some data, at BP pressures. Both sets of load data are available on the web. | |||
