Tried today some surplus powder in my Weatherby vangaurd 300 wby

surplus 7383
surplus 4895

all loads used Rem brass and win mag primers and 150 SP bullets.

65 of IMR4895 = 3203fps with spread of 24 fps

75 of IMR7383 = 3197fps with spread of 24 fps (almost full case) very bulky powder

Maybe we have found what IMR7383 is used for?

hope this helps

I would be interested in hearing about 7383 with 180 grainers??????? Where are you getting the powder and how much. Maybe you are onto something.

Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing what 7383 can do with 180's. Seems like decent velocity considering the barrel is only 24" instead of 26".

Roger

No this was not a compressed load. My cases will fit about 78 grains to top of the necks. 75 was about to the bottom of the neck of the case.

waveFrom all the data we have gathered 7383 ""seems"" to become safely functional in larger capacity cases > 7x57 and above .270 caliber, uncompressed with magnum primers and at a reasonable ambient temperature.

It is sensible to conclude that the 300 Weatherby falls in this catagory.Reasonable care, however, still should be exercised.

Should anyone want the 7383 report, e-mail bartsche@sbcglobal.net. beerroger

Has anyone developed a load using IMR7383 in the 270 WIN using 130 thru 150 grain bullets? I have started with 50 grains and a 130 bullet and accuracy is ok but nothing to write home about.I think this load is too conservative and will work on the load as time permits.Any experiance ouy there will be appreciated.
