Dear All, I have been venturing into an annealing project of late. I read up on the issue, and decided to try a couple of the methods to achieve temperature control during the annealing process. I tried crayons, but found them hard to mark the cases with. I then tried the Hornady Annealing Kit ( scroll down a bit on this page: Hornady "other" products page). I really like the shell holders, and the TempiLaq was a lot easier to mark cases with than the crayons. It seemed easier to "gauge" the temperature with the TempiLaq than rely on colouring of case necks (annealing in a dark room). So far so good. However, I have found the TempiLaq a bit of a pain in the posterior to get off the cases again, after it melts during the annealing process. I am currently trying if tumbling the cases will do the trick, but it does not look all that positive thus far. I have now added some Flitz to my tumbling media, we'll see if that gets rid of the darn stuff?? Have any of you used the TempiLaq and found an easy way of removing it?? I guess the next step would have to be manual removal from each and every case with steel wool... Also, on the TempiLaq bottle it says to use "Green Label Thinner". Not being in the US, and thus unaware of the various household brands and unable to nip down to the next Home Depot, does anybody know what "Green Label" thinner is?? Acetone or something?? I have a small bronze brush (tooth brush size) that gets the Tempilaq off nicely. I just drop the cases into the tumbler for an hour or two thereafter to get the brush marks off (probably not necessary). BTW I just put a small swipe of the Tempilaq just below the shoulder.

Use the tempilaq for a half dozen of cases, and time your cases. Then, from then on, look at your watch instead of using the Tempilaq. You have to benchmark each case (i.e. a 223 takes a different amount of time than a 300 win mag). HTH, Dutch. Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

MHO, I'm quite sure the "green tag" just refers to a product that is safe for the environment. 99% of the democrats give the rest a bad name. "O" = zero NRA life member

Good ideas and comments Guys. I knew I could count on you! - mike P.S. I searched the Internet for the "Green Label Thinner" bit, and Google came up with the goodies: http://www.omega.com/manuals/manualpdf/M1319.pdf Via a separate link, I even found a place I might be able to order the thinner in Germany!! There was even a link to the Material Safety Data Sheet for this stuff, http://www.tempil.com/msds/Laqs/Glaqt_thinner.doc which shows it to be 95% n-Propyl Bromide... ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon...
