I am down to 2 lbs of H4895 and have found a tremondous deal on 8lb of IMR4895($96). The hodgon is working well for me but at the price mentiioned above the IMR is very tempting. I know these 2 powders are side by side on the burn rate chart, but are they essentially the same? I am loading the hodgon in 308,30-06,6.5X55 and 270win. I don't want to end up with an 8lb paper weight here. What do you guys think? TIA Rick

I have used a lot more IMR 4895 than the H4895 and personally cannot see a lot of difference. It is very good 30 cal. powder. And just a short time ago I paid $8 per# for a 8# jug of pull down powder. That is a loft of shooting.

I got 4 of the 8 pound jugs of pull down IMR4895 for $8/ pound 3 years ago. It is about half gone now. It seems to be a "one size fits all" powder for me. I like it the best of all the powders I have for .223, 22-250, 243, 257 Roberts AI, 6.5x55mm, 303 Sav, 303 Brit, 7.62x54R, .308, 30-06, 7.5Swiss, 8x57JS, and 47/70. I also have, but don't like as well for jacketed bullets: XMP5744 RL7 H335 IMR4895 [in IMR purple cans] [because it costs more] H414 Varget IMR4350 H4138SC

With the lots which I have used, H4895 and IMR 4895 seem to be closer in performance than most "pairs" of powders from different manufacturers/distributors. Good results with both. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the IMR variety.
