Bore wear due to abrasive media in cases?

I've been using Tufnut media in my tumbler and I have noticed the abarasive dust (rouge) inside my cases when I take them out of my tumbler. Is this dust tough enough to worry about bore wear from being fired? Should I take steps to wash the dust out of my cases?

I hate that stuff, gets all on your hands and it can't be good to breathe. That's why I prefer corn cob with a little polishing compound in it.

But, compared to the hardness of the steel in your rifle barrel, the polishing rouge is not in the same league. What little amount may remain inside the case is of no effect on your bore.

Well,

accordingly to my knowledge it will increase the wear in the barrel throat. Some media will increase the wear dramatically. You better wash your cases or dont use any grinding media.

shootaway, I wonder where all that dust is going in your reloading room :-).

It's not the media concerning me but the grit rubbed off the cases plus the media improvers one may have added.
These are mostly abrasive, and their first unwanted effect is on your dies and second on the bore.

Either tumble your cases without the abrasive..... Or re-tumble in regular media to remove the abrasive residue. It is not important how "shiny" your cases are, just that they are clean.

geez, jewelers rouge in a tumbler. How anal. Come on guys, you get no extra points for shiny brass in a shooting match.

waitaminit's right on the dies part! My tumbling media (ordinary walnut) and all the gook floating in it has resulted in many scratched dies. Probably not good for your bore either, but that's only a SWAG.

Thanks guys. I think I may be switching to a corn cob-type media.

Use corncob media treated with Flitz polish and your problem will be solved.
