Well it finally happened. For thirty plus years I used RCBS case lube and never got a case stuck in a for. I decided to try One Shot spray case lube and Bingo! What pain. Is there an easy home remedy for this or do I have to buy a stuck case remover?

3/16 drill, 1/4 20 tap, hand drill, long 1/4 20 bolt, 1/4" bolt washer, deepwell socket that is just big enough to slip over the case head

Remove your decape/sizer ball shaft as best the stuck case will allow

Put your die in a sturdy holding apparatus such as a vice

Drill out the primmer pocket plumb through but use caution on the depth as there is a high likelihood your going to hit your decap pin

Tap the hole with the 1/4 20 tap

Place the socket over the case head as you would a nut or bolt

Take the long 1/4 20 bolt and slip the washer on it then run it through the entire length of the socket threading it into the casehead

Turn the bolt until it sandwiches the socket firmly then keep cranking

Your case is being jacked out .050 per full turn of the bolt

Thanks, Ted. I'll give it a try. Is that basically how a case remover works?

Yup....it is....but further Hornady will remove it free and from anyone's dies.....you just have to mail it to them and wait for it to return.

Since I started using Imperial die wax.......this never happens anymore.....it's the stuff to use IMO

I agree that Imperial Case Wax is king and I use it on all of my single station loading

I do however use Hornady Oneshot in my progressive .223/5.56 set up but I spray a large batch of brass in a big old mixing bowl and use a lot of spray then swish all the cases around to fully coat

The mistake people make with one shot is not shaking it up well
enough. Ya gotta shake the chit out of it to get the lanolin mixed
well enough to get a coating of it on the cases. They put that little
ball in there for a reason.

I switched years ago from the RCBS lube cuz it is a mess, switched to Hornady Spray.
I've never had a stuck case that I lubed!
3 times I've stuck cases and it was my fault, I grabbed brass from the pile I had not lubed yet and usually it took 2 or 3 dry ones then I finally stuck it, yeah I know stuuupid.
I can get a stuck one out in about 12 minutes using something like Ted's method.

I switched to One Shot spray lube several years ago and haven't stuck a case yet. I will never go back to the lube pad or the sizing wax simply because of the mess.

Most stuck case stories I read about have one common factor

Hornady One Shot.

YMMV

tu2Seems to me that a fair # of years ago I was bad mouthing Midway spray and you said it was all you use. I sent three or four bottles to you if you paid the postage. Is that correct or is my memory failing ? Any way after playing with a lot of lubes in the last 57 years I find that Imperial and Bahrdal are what serves me best. beer roger Roll Eyes

In 35+ years of reloading, I have stuck (1) case. You guessed it, One shot. Have never had it happen w/a lube pad or after I switched to Imperial.

My preferred method of application Of Imperial would be having Dolly Parton nude applying it.

I used One Shot and stuck several cases. I switched to Imperial Wax and not a single one since. I'm a believer of Imperial.

Well Dolly from 25 years ago or I Dream of Genie's Barbara Eden from 25 plus years ago in the nude swabbing it on my case would be wonderful however I hate to be serious with all this fun but do you guys actually rub it on each case with your fingers or is there another method of application?.
I switched to Hornady one shot purely for the convenience actually switched to a Lyman spray first then it disappeared and I have not stuck a case with it been using it for maybe 10 years with the exception of my own mistake of picking up several pieces of brass from wrong pile and resizing them dry.
I have some Imperial but have found that rubbing it on with your fingers is an Imperial pain in the ass.

Doubt it would help

The hollow springy brass case will create a seal

I gave a quick "correct" method of getting a case out

I personally put the die in a vice....drill out the primmer pocket....screw in a slide hammer

Out in about 3 pops

Unfortunately, it's one at a time, but after a half dozen stuck cases, I was tired of getting out the stuck case remover, and ready to try something different. I've also noticed sizing is "easier" with Imperial vs One Shot.

IMHO the trick to using any spray lube is a clean, empty plastic peanut butter jar (with lid). Place cases in said jar; spray (well shaken) spray lube into jar and then quickly screw on the lid. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or so and then pull out cases one at a time for resizing. My method does not allow much spray lube to be wasted into the atmosphere and keeps the lube on the cases where it belongs. Never had any stuck cases using any brand of spray lube. As a bonus, it does not cause loading blocks to be gummed up with spray lube.

Imperial Sizing Wax. Apply as you go. Easy to remove. Always does what it says it will do!
