Hello all, I have an 1895 Chilean mauser that I would like to start reloading for. This rifle's action is in excelent condition, and shoots the factory Remington 140 grain loads very well. I wanted to try to duplicate the origional loading of a 175 grain roundnose at moderate velocities, 2200 to 2400 fps. I know that Ray Atkinson pushes H414, is this the powder to use? I would like to use a powder that I could also use for the .308 win, as I also have a '98 mauser in that caliber. I know the '95 action is not as strong as the '98, but tell me what I can do here. Thanks [ 08-26-2002, 20:50: Message edited by: Clement ]

Everyone has their favorite powders, of course. I use IMR 4350 for a lot of my 7X57mm loading. It has a burning rate in the 7X57 which is very close to H414, but occupies a little more space in the case, which is desireable if you are loading below max. You want as much loading density as you can get for accuracy purposes. As ricciardelli says, RE 22 will give you even higher loading density. I use this powder with 175-grain bullets with great performance.
