Curious question. Is there a certain year of Lake City brass for .308 WIN That is preferred by anyone? Any years I should avoid? Widener's lists unfired-mechanilcally deprimed lots of LC90, LC87, LC84, LC58 ...etc. They also list WRA66 & WRA68. I am new to reloading and am loking for a good starting point...i.e. does it matter what year???

Nope! IMO, If it looks like good clean brass (no cracks-splits), use it. Also, make sure the primer pockets are swaged before trying to stuff a primer in them.
If this is unfired and clean, use it no matter what the year. If you want match brass, buy from Wideners IMI .308 match brass. I have used this and it is thicker and harder to resize, but good. Buy a small qty. of IMI and compare it to LC. LC loaded M-60 ammo for the military. Good luck and good shooting.
Lake City Match Brass is good stuff and wasn't fired out of machine guns, it never came belted and only came in 20 round boxes designed for match work in highly accurized match rifles. The ammo depending upon the year was loaded with 168-172 grain match boat tailed bullets at around 2580 fps. The brass from this ammo is considered to be gold, the best you can get. I have several cases that have been reloaded over 20 times and still look and act brand new. Beats the snot out of so called match cases put out by other makers. The match cases are marked as such and most years have a knurled ring around the case to distingush them from other ammo. Primers are not crimped and cases are annealed and left unpolished after annealing. If you can get some, do so.
