Howdy,

Im having a .416 Rigby built ans, as I live in Finland, I naturally reload using Vihtavuori powders. I usually go by the book ie I reload carefully. Vihtavuori doesnt have any loads built up for the .416 Rigby, tried mailing them and got the answer "maybe next year". At the moment Im loading 400gr Hornady SP using CCI Mag Primers, Norma Brass and 5.96 grams of N160. Anybody out there have loads and/or ideas?

Cheers,

cewe

Cewe:

Try using 416 Weatherby load data. Just stop when your chronograph reads 2350 fps for the 400 grain bullet.

If you don't have a chronograph, then you need to get one or don't use the Weatherby data.

It is the same case, Weatherby just put a belt on it and upped the pressure. However, your pressure should be very close to right at 2350 fps for the Rigby.

Because you are Finn, there is a very great reloading book, by Esa Paananen named 'Messinkihylsyisten keskisytytyspartuunoiden jlleenlataus'. There is a couple of loads using Vihtavuori powders for the Rigby, 300 gr Barnes X and 400 gr Hornady SP. There is also few loads using Norma and Hodgdon powders.

Kiitoksia sulle Suomenvalo!

Had to greet you in Finnish [Big Grin] . Do you know where I can find the book? Sounds like just the thing Im looking for.

Ole hyv vaan! [Wink]

The author, Paananen, sells the book by himself. Type the word 'messkinkihylsyisten' into the google, and I think that from the first hit you'll find his contact information. I have seen, that Asetalo in Virrat, sells that book also.
Well, that book costs (49 + postage), but so do everything good. Still, I think that the book is worth every euro you pay for it!
Of course you can ask your library to get the book, if you want to see it before buing.
