My load for 38 Spl 148 gr DEWC uses 2.8 gr Bullseye (Speer 13 + Hornady 5th edition). That's a tiny amount of powder and leaves a lot of room for double charging. But it's the most accurate load I have ever shot in any handgun.

Can someone suggest a load using Trail Boss to get 700 - 750 fps?

that bullet is made for the 2.7 gr bullseye load, I wouldn't expect great accuracy out of another powder

And how did you come up with that?

Probably because that load, 2.7 grains Bullseye and 148 gr. wadcutter has been the gold standard for bullseye shooters for probably 30 years at least!

It does not follow that other powders will not give excellent acuracy. The notion that a given bullet will only shoot well with one powder and one charge is preposterous.

3.1 grains of WW 231 is also highly popular among Bullseye and PPC shooters.

Could not find any data for Trail Boss with HBWC, but it's about the same burning rate as Bullseye, just bulkier. You won't get in any trouble trying 2.7 grains.

Not so, you can get outstanding accuracy from an number of powders with this bullet. Red Dot, 231, WSL, Unique, etc, etc, etc, I don't intend to be argumentative, but there are lots of pistol and shotgun powders that work well in the .38 spl with a 148 g. wadcutter. I have used all of the above to produce target loads with 148 g. bullets, and they all do the job.

Be argumentative. Everyone else is and most of them are less informed.

Pete, I've used all of those powders as well but I always come back to 231. It just seems to burn a littlt cleaner than the others. Jim
