What bullet(s) do you use for deer and elk when shooting a 270 Win? I'm wondering if it would be better to use something like a 130 gr Nosler BT for deer and a 150 gr Nosler Partition for elk or stick with one bullet like the 130 gr Barnes XLC or 150 gr Nosler BT for everything.

I prefer one gun, one load for most hunting...

I'd use a 150gr Partition or a 140gr Failsafe, a good charge of H4831 and not look back...

I like to find one load for a particular rifle and stick with only that load. But that is because I own a variety of calibers and can therefore afford to use the .270 only for whitetails or muleys with a 130 grain "conventional" bullet and switch to a .300 magnum or .338 with a "premium" bulet for elk.

If you are hunting BOTH deer and elk simultaneously, then by all means use the "elk" bullet (of those you mention, the 150 grain Partition would be my choice).

If you use, say, a 130 Sierra for deer (which, among others, is an excellent choice), then you'll almost certainly need to resight your gun for the 150 Noslers. This can be both inconvenient and confusing.

I use a 130 grain Nosler Partition (NPJ) for all hunting of animals up to caribou, and a 150 NPJ for all game larger than caribou. In my 20" barrelled Mann. Schoen. 270, both of these bullets give equal accuracy (about 1.25 MOA), and have the same point of impact at 100 and 200 yards. I have never fired this gun at any game beyond about 200 yards.

My 270 Win likes Barnes X 130 gr bullets, in front of 59 gr of RL 22. Very accurate, and you can use this bullet powder combo on pretty much anything you would hunt with a 270. - Dan
