Johan I have a very similar rifle right down to the 1 in 12 inch twist. It is a little fussy on loads and will not shoot the heavier bullets very well at all. However it will put 140 gr TSX bullets pushed by 63 grs of IMR 4350 and CCI 250 primers into a one inch group at 200 yds. It doesn't seem to matter whether that is with the old Norma cases or the new ones. If you can't get IMR powder I suggest you try N204. Hope that helps.

I have owned, an extensively used, two of these Schultz and Larsen rifles in 7x61S&H, an M65 cock on opening and like yours, an M60 cock on closing. Fantastic rifles and would never have sold the last one i had, the M60 except wanted something smaller for my boys to shoot (7mm-08).

The 1 in 12" twist will not stabilise most of the 175gr bullets although the original 175gr Norma round nose did group.

My best loading after trying out most of the projectiles around was the 160gr Sierra SPBT doing 3000fps using IMR4831 and CCI 200 primers. Like snowman, I found either the original S&H cases or the Super cases did the same job. I never found the Schultz fussy and I did use Norma powder in their recommended loading of 64.0 grs N205 in my earlier loadings with 160gr bullets. The Sierras were by far the best grouping and consistent killers short and long range on red deer, tahr, and chamois. For the record, the original Norma factory S&H load with their 160gr SPBT bullet chronographed at 3050fps on my chrony. The factory spec was 3100fps for the S&H loading.

Cheers

I don't load a 7x61S&H however I built a 7mm wildcat with the same capacity. My go to load for 140s and 160s is a heavy load of Rl-22.

As usual just my $.02

Over the years I have owned 5 or more 7x61 S&H rifles by S&L.

My most accurate heavier bullet loads (over 140 grs.) for all of them were:

63 grs. H-4831, RWS primer, 160 gr. Nosler Partition bullets and,

65grs. H-4831, RWS primer, 160 gr. Speer SP bullets.

Those were all in Norma "Super" cases.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
