I have been trying to find the lands on my brno 602 in 375 h&h. First I let the rifling finish seating the bullet (I cycled it through the action a few times to get the lands to seat it as much as they could...A cleaning rod was used to push the cartridge back out for the first couple cycles). Then I used a lighter to "smoke" the bullet and continued to seat the bullet incrementally deeper until I could no longer notice any sign of markings from the lands in the soot. So....I think I am pretty close. I am using a 270 grn barnes tsx and have a COAL of 3.693" when I am just touching the lands. has anyone with a bit more experience found their lands with this bullet and rifle choice? Am I close?? The recommended COAL in the barnes manual is 3.57" which puts me 0.123" off of the lands. That seems like quite a jump, but I assume that it is listed such that it will work for any model of firearm..... I would be interested to here some thoughts on this. Thanks!

The Max COAL is the longest one that will fit in your magazine well. I have one .270 that likes 140gr TSX with H4831 and one that likes 130gr TSX with IMR 4831. Both loads are at and over max respectively, but that is the good thing about the TSX you generally can go over without any significant pressure issues. They also can take a jump as well. My 130gr rifle was poorly chambered and if I were to load one to the lands it would be a single shot. Fortunately it takes the jump and the cartridges do barely fit in the well. Good luck. There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

Buy a Hornady L-N-L overall length gauge & bullet comparator set. They work.
