Does the SST create more pressure with the same loads as the BT?

The jacket on the BT is slightly heavier than the SST...this might suggest a trifle more resistance to going down the tube but to say it's more pressure is not a verifiable statement.....this much I can say.....I've used both bullets with the same loads with no discernable differences.

I can second the 'no discernable difference' comment in the .308 caliber ones I have tried. Virtually same POI and velocity on the same powder. The Bt is slightly more streamlined, and has a brass (gilding metal actually) jacket...the SST is pure copper IIRC.

BT's were measureable more accurate for me though...and slightly more effective on deer (sample of 3 for SST vs 50+ for BT's). YMMV.

CDH, you likely thinking of Swifts, not Hornady when you mentioned copper jackets.

I tested 308 165s SSTs and BTs into wet phonebooks. The SSTs were ever so slightly better. But this test only counts with those bullets.

The 139 gn 7mm SST seems to produce a little less pressure than the 140gn Nosler BT . SST's also shoot groups about 3 times as large as BT's in my 7mm WSM . thumbdown

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
