Before I order the dies. Are there any tricks to reloading the 416 Taylor. Or is it a simple as runnting a 458 win mag through a 416 resize die? Please educate me before I start. Thanks In advance Sur5er...

. . . or neck up 338 Win. Tapered expander (or two) is handy for this.

. . . or just fireform .338 with inert filler (IF) and a wax plug.

I've found the fireforming w/IF tends to have more neck splits.

This would be preferable....simply neck up in one pass the .375 Ruger and outdo the 416 Taylor!

Don't forget that the original Taylor is a wildcat and not all rifles chambered for it are necessarily the same. So I assume that you will be sending fired cases to the die guy to make sure they are compatible.

Also, I assume that you are aware of the "factory" Taylor cartridges made by A Square. But, I can't say if the dimensions of it are the same as any of the wildcat chambers.

Bottom line is, yes you can make cases out of the 458 WIN but be careful.

I use 458 brass for mine then a light fireforming load. I find you ruin a lot more 338 brass I would guess one should use a two or three step process if useing 338 brass.

The 416 ruger wasn't around when I built up 2 416 taylors I would go that route now.

Not that the taylor isn't a great round but I like not belted cases better.

Forming for it is not usually a problem if all the archived posts on here are to be believed (& I do !), Lee does an inexpensive die set with a long tapered neck expander in it. Just be sure to check that the die & chamber are compatible. The lee dies are 2.12" to the shoulder & a 32 degree ( I think) shoulder angle which is the same as most accepted wildcat 416 Ts. But Asquared seems to have registered it with Saami with a 2.04" to shoulder measurement & 25 degree shoulder. If your barrel maker or gunsmith has a saami spec reamer you would need to go with saami spec dies. It just might be the A2 are the only ones that supply these Wink Check around b4 you commit yourself.
