Gidday Guys, Does any one have any experience with Vihtavuori N550 in the 260Rem, specifically with the 129 gr Hornandy interloct or the 120gr sierra. A couple of the guys over here are saying they are getting fantastic performance with this powder and are getting sub .5" groups and 3070fps with 24" barrels with 42gr behind the 129gr hornandy. As this powder sells for $170 per kg I would really like to know about others experiences before I spend that sort of coin. If this is true we may have the new go to powder for the 260. I`ve no experiance with that power at all but, VV load data from the Lapua web site shows VV550 as giving 2746 fps max with a 123gr Sencar, and 2741 as max with a 120 gr Speer SP. I doubt very much they are coming close to 2900 fps and staying within SAAMI pressure let alone hitting almost 3100 with a 129gr. The only powder that worked for my 7-08 (20" barrel). For velocity, RL19, N150, H4895, Varget all poor. H4350 OK, N550 absolutely brilliant. Finally the magic 2,800fps with 140s. Viht published velocities are normally pessimistic. Their charge weights can be 'brave' for modern cartridges. The velocity comes from high nitroglycerine content which takes it's toll on barrels. I wore my 6.5x55 extensively and have heard the same re 308 match rifles.

Gidday Hamish! I shoot a 6.5 Creedmoor; very similar to the .260 Remington in case capacity. I load Winchester 760 and a 139 Lapua Scenar and get over 2900 fps. RL-17 will work well too at higher max velocity if you don't care about how long your barrel will last
