I recently acquired a Hoffman from Ray and am in the process of working on load data. One of the loads suggested was WW748, 74 gr. with a 210 primer and 400gr. Woodleigh. Ray and others have shot this load numerous times but my Quick load program shows the pressure to be at 95,000 and a 109%load density. I asked several times about the load and was assured that is OK. Quick load says that 61gr. will push to 400 at 2150 f/s which is OK with me and at a 91% load density. Can some one else help with these figures? Is there another program out there to look at to check the data? There is little written in load manuals about the 10.75x68 there extrapolation and recommendation is all I have to work with. Thanks in advance.

double checked quickload, same results. I noticed that bullet is very long and the neck is only 0.361" and wonder if the bullet needs to be seated far out. If i seat by 1 bullet dia. then pressure is only 66kpsi.

Steve, this is a wierd deal. Most of the loads from Quick load seem to be in the ball park for speed and pressure considering all issues. This load has been written in Rifle magazine and recommended by numerous other pros. Is there any other ballistic program to check this with? I don't want to blow the thing up!

I am sending you several articles from handloader, Rifle and ???, wherein that load is recommended and I shot it in that very rifle, and it was, in fact, very mild...round primers, no ejector marks or any other marks and extraction was easy...Resizing the case was very easy and no stretch...????????? Also velocity is such as not to indicate a hot load..I personally don't even consider it max...

The neck is .026 (.65) in length and .453 OD and .423 ID....

where did you get your numbers.

Also a loaded roung should be 3.189 for factory specs...and to meet a Woodleigh cannalure with a 374 gr. Woodleigh for the 10.75x60....

oops. 10.75x62 is .361" according to Donnelly and he has the 68 at 0.49" and neck OD at .445" so much for manuals. Thanks

Not surprising, one thing you can take to the bank is that most of those early calibers all varied a good deal...Most early smith just ran a reamer in until it looked good!
