First, I would like to thank this site and all contributors for all the information provided. It has really been useful. I have recently got into rifle shooting and have purchased several rifles that I am going to start reloading for. I have a 25-06 with a 26" heavy barrel and a 30-06 with a 22" barrel. I would like to use one powder that I can use for both calibers. So far Re-22, 4831, and 4350 look as though they can be used with both. I am more concerned about performance (velocity and accuracy) in the 25-06 (planning to use 110 grain accubonds) vs. the 30-06 (with 180 grain partitions). Any insight would be appreciated.

I prefer 4831, but that is just me. I use it in quite a few ctgs.

4831 is tough to beat if you want to use 1 powder for both, I might suggest using the 4831sc (the SC stands for "short cut") it is identical as far as data etc. The individual grains are just cut smaller so that it meters more efficiently/accurately according to Hodgdon.

Be careful though, I got into reloading with the same designs......now I have over 20 different types of powder on my shelves, 30-40 different boxes of bullets, and die sets I don't even own rifles for!

Good Luck!

I've used H-4831sc in my 25-06 for years and it works great. Just be careful WHICH 4831 you buy. The IMR-4831 is hotter than the H-4831. I reloaded about 50 rds with the IMR once instead of the Hodgdons and I was backing out primers and jamming up my rifle right and left until I finally pulled the remaining shells apart.

If you just one one, then H4831 SC would be it. It works with both calibers assuming the bullets in the 25/06 are 100 grains of more. And it's temperature insensitive to boot.

Sounds like H 4831 SC may be the way to go. Temperature insensitivity is important. I will use the 25-06 for antelope when it can be 85 and for coyotes when it can be well below freezing. Thanks.
