I suppose my two choices would be IMR 4350 and Re 19, but mostly because these are the two I have used the most of, with 4831 not far behind. I have had a pound of Big Game on the shelf for years because it was recommended to me as the bee's knees for 7mm-08, but I never tried it with the '06. I typically load 165- and 200-grain bullets in this caliber, and 150s mostly for practice.

AFRICAN LEADWOODH4350 so far.
Staball 6.5 looks promising in my testing and most likely able to achieve higher velocities, if that is your thing.
Seen many rave about RE26 with 180gr and heavier.

Phil McFallRe19 and IMR4064 work the best for me.

crbutlerI have quite a few .30-06 hunting and target rifles.
For 150-155-168 target loads, one rifle really likes 4064, the rest like 4895.
150 hunting loads generally varget. Probably because its temp stable and I have a lot of it.
165 hunting loads IMR 4350, specifically 57 g 4350 with a 165 partition.
180 H4350 or RL 17. (have a hard time finding RL 17, but it seems to give the best accuracy at top velocity)
200 RL 19.
Frankly anything seems to work within reason in the 06.
I pretty much stick with 4064 and 4895 for target loads because I have a Garand that I play with at times. Those loads are not near the top velocity, but they are accurate.

Lamar4064, rl-19, 4895... oh and some rl-22.
I know a few guys swear by 4350, but I never got round to buying any.

cal30 1906Over the years I have tried many but Imr 4350 and Rl22 have been the best all around in my rifles with 4350 being my choice for just about all my bolt action rifles.
It just always seems to work.

LuckyduckerH4831SC has given me stellar accuracy with 150 grain and 180 grain Hornady IL bullets, but the 165 ILs not so much. I have used this load with a certain charge weight in multiple rifles and it shot superbly in them all.

carpetman130-06 was my first attempt at reloading. I chose 4064 because it would give top velocity with most bullet weights. What a moot point. What a nightmare it would be sighting in all those weights and trying to remember which weight your scope was set for. So I settled on one bullet weight. Then for years I heard 4350 was THE powder. Got some and my rifle does better with 4064.

jeffeossotoday? it's h335, as that's my universal default rifle powder -- next is RL 22 and heavy bullets.. after that .. well, i don't recall

ChickenNose4350 of either flavor does work well but Big Game is where it’s at in the ‘06.

What loads have you had sucess with? I have two lbs of Big Game earmarked for my 06.
20 March 2024, 19:26
ChickenNoseI use it with a 168 gr TTSX and it’s money with that bullet. It runs at 2,850 and it is a reliable 1 1/4 moa load out to 400 yds which is as far as I’ve shot it. This is in a stock early 90’s Model 70 Classic.

WstrnhuntrOwning a few other 308 cals more suitable for 165's on down I usually stick to 180 or better in the 06. As such 4350, W-760 or 4831 are what I use the most. But powders more suitable for a 308 W Like 4895-Varget are great for 150 and such.

p dog shooterI burned pounds of IMR4064, IMR4831, WCC852.
In my 06's.
After an estate buy I have 14lbs each of 4350 and 4831.
Cost to me zero. So they well become my favorite powders
21 March 2024, 21:56
StonecreekRL-17 has become my go-to powder with 150's and 165's. However, I have one rifle which insists on IMR4895. With 180's I've about run out of surplus 4831 so will likely go with something like one of the 4350's when needed.
H4350 for my two 30-06s. One shooting 180 Accubonds and the other the 168 TTSX.

congomikeSince the only rifles I own in 30-06 are military rifles like 03 Springfields, 1917 Enfields, and Garands, I use only one load for all, and that load is 147-150 gr, boat tail bullet behind IMR4895.

AtkinsonI have 30 pounds of surplus 4831 and its a great powder in 06 and 270 but cuts kernels to beat hell.
so I switched to WW760 (H414) the same and cfe-223 for ease of throwing a powder charge accurately..

With 200 Partitions I get 2700 with 54 gns of R17
Just lately have tried R26 behind d the 220 Partition and get 2600 there

After seeing a Lb of IMR 4350 at Sportsmans for $75.00 I started looking in the local classifieds. I just picked up a keg of W-760 myself for much less. Its a better 06 powder than some of the faster burning ones IMO. Works great in many 57mm cases too.
