Just got a new rifle in 260 Rem and looking for advice on brass. I haven't read much positive on Remington brass so am deciding on resizing Nosler or Lapua. Is it best to size up, .243 to .264, or size down, .308 to .264? Thanks, CC

strange.....I really don't understand all these posts about "bad brass".....I've never bought any and I never shoot factory ammo I certainly agree that the brass needs touching up upon receiving new from the factory....but a pass thru the FL die and it's good to go.....I sure wouldn't spend twice the money for brass that don't need it! I have Remington new brass for the .260 here.....and wouldn't trade it for anyones if I had to anti up....just go to midsouth and order .260 brass and be done with it. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I also buy Remington brass, and FL resize for my .260. I do as Vapodog says, I bought my last .260 brass from Cabelas, ran it all through FL resize out of the bag. I have shot some 8 times and FL resize with no problems yet.

Sizing down always gives me better necks and never had a problem with necks being too thick, expecially when small changes occur, as in .308 to .260. I do have to turn the necks when I make .22-250 cases from .30-06 tho. I have no complaints about Rem brass. Or Winchester, or Federal.

I've necked up 243 brass to 260.. but since I ALSO shoot 243, I don't do it very often... I don't shoot 7/08 or 308.. so I more commonly neck down those two cartridges to 260... The main reason I do so, is that I prefer Win Brass over Rem brass usually, with few exceptions... The first batch of 260 Brass I bought was a bad batch.. it had a lot of casualties early... Would I use Rem 260 Brass again? I guess so, if Win 7/08 and 308 Weren't available... if one really wants long brass life in 260, then Lapua 308 or 243 would be the best choice... Depending on how tight your chamber is, necking up works better for me. The RP 260rem brass works fine though, just cull by wt. I neck Lapua 243 up for my 260ai & can not really tell the diff. in longevity or accuracy vs the RP260. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

the only thing I don't like remington brass for is for "max effort" loads with RL22 and 165gr Barnes in the 30-06. Winchester brass is just enough thinner that I can coax another grain or so of RL22 into the once fired cases and that's enough to make the RL22 "happy" Other than that (and for my 6.5x55) I prefer Remington brass. I've had "issues" with winchester brass in my 7mmRemMag. I usually get three or four neck split when resizing (out of 50) on the second and third firing. and I've gotten ONE neck split on the third firing out of each of the five batch of 60 cases I've got. I'lll stll use the Winchester 7mmRemMag brass but after the fourth firing it goes into the scrap bin and I won't be buying any more.. I DO NOT have that issue with Rem or Fed brass. Norma Brass? I find that in my 6.5x55 it is softer and exibits more stretch on resizing My solution is to neck size until the loaded rounds won't chamber easily (ALL my hunting ammo is cycled through the chamber of the rifle it will be shot in before I take it into the field) Unless you are SERIOUSLY target shooting (in actually competetion)OR loading for a cartridge that ONLY Lapua makes (338Lapua Mag?) using Lapua brass is purely an exercise in Snobbish Elitism, because no game animal will ever know the difference. I'm not sure that Lapua even makes 260Rem brass FWIW I wouldn't form 260Rem brass if I could buy it. I also wouldn't for it from 243 win if you OWN another rifle in 243Win. As for necking down brass? if you neck down from 308 you will NEED to turn down the necks and you'll likely have a significant attrition rate on forming. you could use 7mm-08 brass but the same caveat applies if you actually own another rifle in 7mm-08 it's close enough that you coud become confused. AGREE 100% I neck down Win. Fed. and LC Match because I get a ton of it free the Win and Fed are my choice only because I have to turn the necks on the LC Eagles from above
