I have posted this question in other forums of this website hoping to get an answer.

Does anyone know how to calculate anticipated recoil for a particular load and rifle? e.g. If I know the bullet weight, velocity, energy and the weight of the rifle, can an accurate estimate be made of the recoil? Let me know. Thanks folks.

I use Pointblank. Download it here... http://www.huntingnut.com/ and the recoil calculator is under Miscellaneous Functions.

Bullet weight, bullet velocity, powder weight, powder velocity and rifle weight are the 5 things you need to know to calculate the FREE recoil and recoil velocity. Muzzle energy is not actualy a factor (it is also calculated from bullet weight and velocity).
Note that the calculators give you FREE recoil, what you actualy get hit with is FELT recoil, and that is strongly influanced by stock design and shooter fit.

Unfortunately, how hard a rifle "kicks" in recoil is not easy to predict. A basic discussion, including a basic calculator, can be found here.
