I've acquired data from the Hodgdon website. Can't find any manuals with data. Attended a recent Phoenix Gunshow and couldn't find anyone that knew much about the 500. I've had great success with the loads I've used so far. I've tried Midway. Does anyone know where to find more info?

Jimbo,
You do not mention if you are looking for light loads, heavy loads, cast load or jacketed loads.

This cartridge is just aproaching it's second birthday. Much of the load development for the cartridge is still underway.

For example, the data that you have was released before the cartidge specifications were submitted to SAAMI for publication. As such, those loads are all well below maximum (60,000PSI). I think that Hornady used 50,000PSI as the max load point.

I have been tinkering with heavy cast projectiles ranging from 450 grain to 725 grain.

Here is the 725 grain round shown with a Federal Factory 41 Magnum 250 grain CastCore hunting load for comparison.

It is not a speed demon, infact it only moves out at 1100 fps from the 8 3/8" barrel. I will soon have data from a 15" Encore barrel.

The 650 grain

is shown with a 44 magnum Keith style SWC for comparison. This gets more velocity moving at over 1250.

I like the 510 grain the best so far. It breaks 1600 fps from the revolver and I can not wait to see how it performs in the lomger barrel.

Log on to "Google" and do a search for 500 Smith and Wesson Reloading Data. I found several sources, I think Corbon had some etc. Start stocking up on "lil-gun" and H-110, the former has to be the all time worst named powder when used in the S&W 500 -shoots good though......DJ
