I have loaded my .257 Roberts with 100gr. flat base interlock spire points with success for a good while. Recently I bought a batch of 25 cal bullets of all kinds and ages. In the batch there are over 2 boxes of Pre Interlock bullets.

Could someone tell me the real difference between the older bullet construction and the Interlock. I suppose the old bullet is of a weaker design. Thanks for any info. Merg

quite a few years ago Hornady added an inner feature to their jacket. An inner ring was formed in the jacket to allow the jacket to "crimp" better to the lead core to help prevent the core from shedding the jacket.

This was a big improvement in their hunting bullet line as it did help prevent spitting the core from the jacket.

This is the only change made in Hornady bullets in many years as it was an exceptional bullet.

Then the competition forced the SST and interbonds.....but the pre interlock bullets are the same as the interlocks except for the inner ring in the jackets.

I would think those bullets would work just fine for anything that a 257 Roberts is adequate for. I have always liked the interlocks. I tried some of the interbonds but couldn't get them to shoot as well as the interlocks (300 H&H) so I never tried the interbonds on game. I have used the interlocks on a couple of truck loads of different game and have never had a bullet problem. I have never lost an animal shot with an interlock either. I wouldn't hesitate to use those two boxes of bullets on a good hunting trip. Good luck and post some pictures.
