I have a .300 Weatherby and I'm going to try sone 150 gr. ballistic tips for target shooting. I cannot find IMR 4350 anywhere for the last month but I got a can of RE 17. According to the gunshop owner who is a avid reloader Re 17 is very close to 4350 and some patrons are using it in place of 4350. Problem is I can't find any data for the .300 and Re 17. I have numerous other powders, H4350 and 4831 and 7828 and Re 19 but was wondering if anyone tried Re 17 in the .300 Weatherby with 150 gr. bullets? Any data would be very helpful for a starting point. Thanks, PaLuke

My immediate reaction would have been that it's too fast, but Alliant says it's similar to IMR4350. On the other hand, their load data doesn't list it. I'd proceed with caution.

It sounds a tad too fast for 150's but maybe it would be the ticket with 125 BT's? Would be amazing out to 500 or so yards.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

Well, you could contact Alliant.
Or you could approach it something like this.
Hodgdon data says max load in 300 WIN IS 74 I4350
aLLIANT SAYS MAX LOAD RE17 IN 300 WIN IS 74.
How about starting with that as a start load for the 300 wby. My computer model with quickload thinks 74 re 17 under a 150 would make 55k with a 26" barrel and 3258 fps. I think it will be a tad slower because ql doesn't factor in freebore....but it could be very close. If you want to start there we can see what your gun does and use ql to guide us upward. In all honesty the smart way is to contact alliant but I would approach it this way if on my own.

Thank you for the replies. I think I'll contact Alliant or wait for the Imr 4350 to become available. I'll save the Re 17 for my sons 270 WSM. Thnaks, PaLuke
