Sendero throat

I receintly purchased a new Sendero in 7MM ultra mag. When I get a new rifle I usually seat the bullets out to within .003 to .008 of the lands. Depending on how a particular rifle likes to shoot. Today I started loading for my new Sendero, I can't get the bullet out far enough to touch the lands.
I think the factory ammo oal is about 3.60 or mabe 3.65. I have loaded mine out to 3.90 and it still chambers with out land marks on the bullet. I have sent an e-mail to Remingtons tech support, but won't hear from them for a few days. Has any one else
had this problem? Have any of you guys with
sendero's checked your throat depth? Ken

Interesting--it appears that remington has dialed in "freebore" like a weatherby. OH oh now all the weatherby bashers will have to start bashing remington too!!

Actually--if it does have freebore it will still shoot just fine. I have weatherby's that are perfect tack drivers--freebore or not.

In the long run it will probably give you a little more velocity.

It's rare to be able to touch the lands on a Rem factory barrel, in my experience.

Have the same problem with my 300RUM in sendero. Mostly just tolerances at the factory due to mass produced barrels. I bitched and complained to remington about it due to I measured the throats on 4 300RUM and got variances from 3.65" to 3.85" with the same set of Nosler Partitions. I decided to go to a few gun shops and do research. They tried to say they freebore only for liability reasons and handloading. Since they started putting on the stupid bolt locks, i can believe it. But its just bad quality in my opinion. I have made up my mind that in the future, I will look for used actions and get good quality kreiger, hart or lilja barrels and find a smith to ream to my specs. you will never drag any specs out of them. And they won't support your handloading either. I did find a guy in the custom shop to help however. Can't remember his name. On one of my guns, I found the best seating was .2" from the lands. Got the best results.

I also have a sendero in 7mm ultra mag.I checked my max. OAL with 150gr. scirocco's using the stoney point guage and got 4.030. Using a max. OAL of 3.675 (because of the mag.) I get .3550 of free bore.

I have a Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag and it has a short throat. So short, in fact, that there is an enormous amount of space wasted in the magazine. The rifle easliy shoots under 1/2 MOA, but I have had rifles with lots of "freebore" shoot well also. Nothing to worry about, and you can probably get more velocity out of it before pressures rise.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. Remington got back to me and said they purposly added freebore to keep the chamber pressure down. I have also ordered a factory crimp die from Lee. With that much freebore I think I will get more consistant loads with a crimp. Do you guys think it does any good to check runout if the bullet has to "jump" over .3 inches to get to the throat? Seems like it would defeat the purpose. Ken
