I was wanting to know and pretty sure someone here has the answer, what powder is used in the Win. Power Points in 308win. 150gr? Do you know how many grains also? Thanks

Difficulty with factory ammunition is that they can use a factory blend powder, not quite similiar to what's available to the public. May look like W748 for example, but be somewhat different.
Cheers...

if anyone ever tells you what powder is used in a factory load you should treat the information as extremely suspect.

It's not known even to the employees on the manufacturing floor.

Wow! I had no idea it was that air tight. I know I had read somewhere once that Remington used W760 in their 7-08 factory stuff and just figured that it was known what Winchester uses in their factory ammo also. Although now I guess that the remington thing I heard is suspect.
Just trying to figure it out since those factory loads are loaded the same for everybodys rifles that shoot that caliber and figured they found something that was pretty standard as far as applying to most rifles across the board since that is what they service. Thanks

Bearbuck, as usual Vapodog is right--I have disassembled several factory loadings, specifically quite a bit of Winchester Supreme, and Federal Premium from time to time, and have had the same loadings--i.e. Federal Premium with 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, and one box would have a ball powder, and another an extruded long cut, and yet another an extruded short cut.

In my notebooks I have noticed as many as four distinctly different powders in one ammo type from the same manufacturer in the same year!

I don't think this is really common, but it is more common than I would have thought!

Good Luck--Don

fwiw (at least some) manufacturers buy a "bulk" powder that has been blended to provide a certain burn rate specifically for a single cartridge....and it's not the same powder each time.

They must operate profitibly too so buy what is least costly each time.

The powder is (normally) purchased in large cardboard (fiberboard) barrels about the size of 30 gallon drums and is identified by a P O Number.

Each lot is worked up in test barrels according to SAAMI specs and manufactured as usual.

As previously stated it may or may not be the same from time to time.

This is why if you get a unusually good accuracy from a lot of ammo you might want to consider buying several boxes of it....it might not happen again.
