Hi ledvm,

I bought the Lyman electronic powder measure a few years ago. I don't recall the model number, I'm at the office, don't have it in front of me. I believe at the time, it was a 1200. I have been very pleased with it from the getgo. The only thing about these things is, when it says warmup for 30 minutes, it means it. It does not measure accurately until after it warms up.

I have a Lyman DPS1200 and an RCBS combo.
When the lyman's first came out, they were really slow and got clogged with really fine powders but they have corrected those issues and with, I believe, their 1200 II, it works just fine. I have owned the Hornady powder measure but some one else bought it before I could give it a try. I go between the RCBS and the Lyman.

Now Lyman only offers what they call the Gen 5 and Gen 6 model. No 1200.

Anybody use the Pact dispenser/scale combo?

I've got the first version. It is slower than the current version (so I hear), but it works really well. The scale should be checked periodically with known weights, and check weights are provided.

I've had mine for probably 10-12 years, and though I haven't used it for 8 hours a day, every day, in that time, I think it has held up well.

Mine had to be calibrated to the powder you were using each time, but the results of auto-trickling were good, not stellar, probably within +/- .1 grain, or .2 grains for very coarse extruded powders. The scale only weighs to tenths, but I don't know about the newer models.

If I were going to replace mine, it would be with another PACT unit.

Well...it seems Pact definitely stands behind theirs better! See e-mail from them I got today.

After less than 1000 rounds loaded...my RCBS Chargemaster went haywire. I called RCBS and they said since I have had it over a year...just throw it away and buy a new one. Needless to say this did not make me happy. I was not looking for a freebie...was happy to pay for service.

I need a new one now and am interested in the Pact system. Can you tell me about the Pact powder dispenser/scale combo...including its warranty and how Pact would handle the above situation???

Lane

Their warranty will cost you $30 roundtrip shipping. My dispenser has been back twice. Other than that I've been happy with mine. I have loaded a couple thousand.rounds on it. The scale displays to tenths. I would say that 24 grains is 23.95 to 24.04 by rounding. I have not weighed enough to say. I will say that my RCBS 505 agree when I weigh check weights on them. I have weighed a couple of charges on my Gempro but not enough to give good data.

I load my match ammo with the Pact. I shoot Service Rifle and load with Varget for ranges out to 600 yards. I have loaded one batch of 1000 yard for an AR on it. The ammo shot well but an AR is not a good 1000 yard gun in .223.

Well, I think we probably load more ammo than a lot of people around here, and I have tried many of those automatic powder dispensers.

Have not tried any of the new ones, but the older ones were a bloody pain in the posterior.

Eventually we ended up using a powder scale by itself, and I throw the powder using one of the LEE spoons.

The scale I have been using for years - I use two, one in our loading room and one in our workshop making bullets.

Both are RCBS Model Chargemaster 1500, and they have been working just fine.

In fact, the only time I switch either off is when I am out of the country, otherwise they are on all the time.

The Omega is a nice trickler. I have used mine a few times but didn't think about it some we were talking automated dispensers. I put a small review of it to trickle up a thrown charge, the Pact, and a thrower and manual trickler on Snipershide a few years ago. I'll post it later when I get my laptop out.

Get a powder scale and a drop tube powder charger..I like the RCBS, and the Redding, neither of which is digital, but both are at least 50 years old...

Learn to toss charges, the secret being to make the same movements for every charge thrown..After you master that you won't use the scale much as it becomes useless because all your charges weigh the same..

I've been using a GemPro 250 digital scale with an Omega Power Trickler. This combination is nearly as quick as the all-in-one units and throws are extremely accurate.

Been considering the exact same. How long have you had the GemPro?
