Any .444 Marlin fans here? I'm getting ready to start loading them up for an Encore and am thinking of trying TAC with a 300 gr Hornady XTP bullet to start. Opinions?

Rifle or handgun? I shoot larger bores for fun so most of my shooting is with cast bullets. I think the .444 is better single shot round than a repeater round.

It's a 26" rifle barrel that will be used mainly for deer hunting.

Where did you get a 26" rifle barrel? Most of the stuff I see are 24".

The tapered barrels with iron sights are 24 inches long. The heavy barrels with no iron sights are 26 inches long. The fluted Pro Hunter barrels are 28 inches long. Custom barrels are pretty much whatever you want them to be.

Yep this one is a heavy barrel with no sights. I would have really liked to have gotten a 18 or 20" Katahdin barrel but couldn't find one so I settled for a longer barrel.

I shoot a 444 since 1981... nowadays my powder of choice is SR 4759... my bullet of choice is the 300 grain XTP also.. I use a wide variety of charges depending on the need at the time.. from 15 grains to 35 grains... lighter charges, I have been known to substitute 200 grain XTPs for kids to shoot at 1000 to 1200 fps... makes them feel like big kids, shooting a 'big' gun with 'Big' bullets... my Marlin 444 is super accurate.. especially for a lever action rifle.. 22 inch barrel...
