In working up some loads for a new rifle, a Winchester M 70 SS Classic in 338win mag, I started with some loads I have used in my old Blue/walnut M77 Ruger.. didn't have a chronograph when I was useing the Ruger, but now I'm getting 2940fps out of Nosler partition 225s ahead of 73.4 gr Rl 19 in the Winchester. 2800fps would be fine for me, so I'll back her down and try it at 72 gr.. Every rifle is a law onto itself, I guess.. Les

Tried 72 gr RL 19... still getting over 2900fps with 225gr Nosler Partitions. tried NP 210s, and this rifle likes 'em.. last group went into .730 inch. chrono read 2918, 2927, 2942.. No pressure signs.. this rifle has a 26" barrel. Alaska in seven weeks... Les

Nosler 210 Partitions are all I use in my .338 !! Only difference is that IMR4350 is my powder of choice, very close in burn rate to RL19. I get 3050 fps out of a 26" barrel with 72 gr of 4350 with a 210 partition.

Les I have one of those old Rugers in 338. They have a very long throat which results in lower pressures. I've also seen some winchester rifles with very short throats . That would explain your increase in velocity.

Les, I've got a '94 Ruger M77MKII in .338WM. I'm loading 70.2gr or RL-22 in Winchester brass, with 225gr SST's. Velocity is 2613 fps.

Good luck with the load.

I have one of the old Rugers in .338WM and wouldn't trade it for much if anything! Mine shoot's incredibly well. The barrel has been shortened to 22".

I am over book on most loads with no pressure signs at all. I'm using 250gr Woodlieghs in mine over RL22, Rem Brass, WLRM primers. I used IMR4350 with 200gr. Barnes X wich shot ok but not nearly as well as the 250's. I only took one elk with the Barnes 200gr X.

I'm hearing lots of people really loke the 210gr Nosler Partitions. I may try them when I run out of the Woodlieghs......unless they go on sale again. Big Grin Nate
