If you had to pick one which one would you pick to hunt deer sized game, factor in on game performance, bullet characteristics, ease of reloading etc.,? I am going to have a rifle rebarreled and am trying to decide between the two. They both look good.

Sniper,

I would like to recommend that you consider the 270 Weatherby and some Reloder 22 powder with a 140 grain bullet.

Good Hunting !

257 without any doubt. If you what to shoot anything with more bullet weight, get a fast 7mm and use 160 grainers.

Since I do have a 7mm Rem Mag, I'm leaning towards the 257 Weatherby. Keep the opinions coming.

Johan I am going to load some 160 grain Speer Mag Tips for my 7mm just as soon as I get the scope.

Since you already have the 7mm mag I would go with the 257 WBY. I don't think the 270 will gain you much over the 7. But, that is just my opinion.

i would personally chose the 270, i believe it is far more efficient. but since you already have a 7 mag i would go for the 257. i have spent many a night thinking about it.the 270 weatherby and the 7 mag are pretty close ballistically. in fact the "edge" i think is given to the 7 mag. it will shoot a 150 grain bullet at near 3200 fps, while the best i could get with my mark 5 in a 270 weatherby was 3100. i thimk the 257 gives you a little more versatility. have fun!

Thanks for all the replies. I am going with the 257 Weatherby Mag, 26" barrel with a recessed crown. I will try to ship it out to Pac-Nor Monday.

I haven't found the .257's to be 100% deer waxing medicine. The .270's will wax any deer on the planet, shortly, with good bullet placement. The .257's are 80% in this department, at least for mule deer.
