what is the most accurate varmint bullet that has worked the best in your various .22 centerfires, I mainly use vmaxs but have found good accuracy with blitz bullets and so so with nosler btips. however in my big game rifles btips are almost always a sure bet for accuracy. AR reloading guru, seafire, says that speer TNT's are an accuracy darkhorse, anyone else had steller luck with these?? I am not interested in bullets in the 50-55grn class

in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

Cummins...

I don't know about reloading guru... gruesome was the correct word I think that was being used.. not guru...

But where you mentioned not in the 50 to 55 grain class.... the bullet I was referring to was the 50 grain Speer TNT....

others can do a good job and be as accurate, but not at the cost of that bullet...

the 55 grain SPSX is also a good cost candidate and excellent in the accuracy dept, but one can't use it in a 1/9 twist, like on a Savage or Stevens... they will vaporize right out of the barrel...

just kinda clarifying that!

cheers

The most accurate bullet in my .223 was the 50gr sierra blitz(not blitzking) followed up by the 50gr ballistic tip then the TNT.

I've found Sierra Matchkings to be very accurate. Berger match bullets are sometimes even more so. For varmint shooting, match bullets work very well, even though they are supposed to be good only for paper punching.

For heavier hunting rifles, I've found the Nosler Accubonds sometimes give me the best accuracy I've been able to achieve. In particular, that was true of the 200 gr. Accubond in a .300 Weatherby.

50gr Vmax thumb when I started loading for my .222 I bought every bullet I could get my hands on, and the Vmax works the best for me!

For match bullets, I use Sierra or Berger.

For hunting bullets in my 222, 223 and 22-250 I use Speer 70 grain Semi-Spitzers. All these barrels are 1:12 twist.

I confess, I have never tried polymer tipped .224 caliber bullets.

It's a toss up in my rifles.

Sierra 53 gr MKs or Nosler 55 gr BTs.

Either will give outstanding accuracy, and great terminal performance on groundhogs.

However, you ask for info on 22 cal bullets, but then say that you're not interested in 50-55 grain bullets. They are the meat and potatoes of 22 cal stuff. So I gotta ask, what bullet weights are you interested in? Heavier or lighter?

In my .222, 52 gr MK's leaves one hole in the paper no matter how many times you fire. In my .22-250, I seem to prefer the 55 gr SP GK's and have -.5 MOA consistently.

I won't give loads for either, but, the .222 is HOT!!

My Tikka .223 really likes the TNT's,
but in general, across all of my .223 bore
centerfires, Vmax's and TNT's, shoot better than
Noslers BTs, and the Bergers shoot best of all.
I haven't tried Sierra bullets, due to a
previous issue with them in another caliber. I
keep looking at them, but am having a hard time
talking myself into buying more Sierra bullets.

Squeeze,

If you are going to try a box of Sierra, try the 1330 or the 1360. They are listed as the 50 and 55 SP varminters. After a lot of testing I (we) have found they outshoot all the other varmint bullets in that weight range.

I would have told CC that but he is not interested in any information on 50-55 grn bullets. bewildered

50gr Blitzkings and 50gr V-max's both wil do .3-.4 in my .222rem. Seems not to like 40gr B-tips.

The .222rem's generally seems to like 50gr, dont really know why.

As a rule of thumb, the Sierras seem to be the "most consistantly accurate" common bullets. The problem with such rules is that we ain't measuring thumbs!

But your results may not lie with Sierra. As the posts show, YOU must try each brand and style and weight of available bullets if you want to know what gives the best accuracy in YOUR rig. But covering all those bullets is difficult and expensive. In reality we all stop searching when we get a level of accuracy we will accept.

Sierra bullets have always been the standard of accuracy. Most MK's are not good varmint bullets however.

Sierra is always my first choice. If they don't work keep in mind that many Hornady bullets have that secant ogive or whatever they call it with the full or almost full diameter of the bullet carried much further forward. This shape is a lot different than many other bullets.

Many of the Hornady VMax bullets shoot very well for me.

The Sierra Bullet Co. is a major part of modern rifle history. They produced the first really accurate bullets and still do.

I shoot a ton of pds with bullets made by all the major players. Can honestly say I have never found any appropriate bullet for my rifles to be "not accurate". In other words they are all very very good.

Most accurate Sierra BKs

But such a close second would be Hornady Amax (I use these in my 22-250 AI exclusively)

I found after much work in my 22 hornets, the Sierra 45gr varminters shot best, very good in fact. When I got my CZ 527 Varmint in 223, it loved them too. Made it real simple for me. Stocked up.
