I just got my first 220 Swift and I now have to get some components.
Can anyone please loan me some their experience with which brass, powder and primers to use. Especially brass. I'm looking at Redding dies for reloading also.
Thanks,
Joe

T/C Encore 26" is the rifle. It is a 1:14 twist. I was looking at trying 40-55 grain bullets with this one. I know I'll probably have to use the FL dies each time, so brass life may be somewhat short. After all it is a Swift, but I don't even load my .223 Remington stuff near max.
Thanks so far

I would start off with redding dies and invest in a neck sizer. My load in 4 different 220 swifts is 43 or 44 grains of h380, 50 grain nosler bt , or 50 grain hornady v max, winchester brass, and fed 210m primers. All 4 swifts love this load. Should be good for 3900 to 4000 fps, and well under moa. Good luck and enjoy!!
I've loaded a bunch of them and like H414 with a 55 gr bullet. As a rule if it won't shoot with IMR 4064 or H414, it probably won't shoot. I haven't tried RL15 yet, but it works in everything I've tried it in, the .375's, 9,3x62, .30-30, etc.

If you shoot max loads (which is what the Swift is all about) keep close watch on your neck thickness. Swift brass likes to flow into the neck and what was a near max load can rupture primers after a few loadings on the same brass. Neck turning and annealing will lengthen the life accordingly or do what I do; just plan on replacing your brass more often than some other calibers.

40gr sierra hp with rel15, Win. brass and Fed210 primers
50gr Noslet BT with IMR 4064, Rem brass, same primer
55gr Hornady SP with IMR 4064, Rem brass, same primer
Two weeks ago I shot a 3 round group from my savage to get an idea where they would all land. I used a makeshift bench in a light breeze at a 125 yard range. The result was a .55" triangle shaped group. So they all have the same point of impact.

The conventional "three die" reloading set is obsolete. Instead buy a Lee Collet die set. This will be your neck sizer and seating die.
If you want the optimum outfit the next die is a Redding "S" type FL die. Order one but no bushing yet. When you load up the first rounds with the Lee dies measure the loaded neck diameter and order a bushing then.
The idea is to work the brass in the necks as little as possible so as to reduce bullet runout. Both of these dies suggested will not use an expander button therefore no inside neck lube will be needed.
I am using WW brass with very good results. Powders like IMR 4064 and RL 15 are suggested. If your twist is the standard 1-14" be advised that some of the new plastic tipped 55 gr bullets such as the Sierra BK may be too long.
"Swift Brass" does not "flow and thicken" into the necks anymore than any other cartridges. Just don't overload it.
