After toying with the idea for quite some time, I decided to start loading my own ammo last December. To prepare, I have read thousands of pages on the subject to ensure that I make the safest and most reliable loads possible. I have everything that I need - a press, way to prep brass, the brass itself, projectiles, primers, loading data, etc...everything except powder.

I've spent the last few days scouring the internet and visiting/calling my local gun shops with not even a hint of success. Any suggestions to help out a hopefully soon to be fellow reloader?

Unfortunately...you picked a difficult time to start reloading. The political climate of the country has made powder really hard to come by.

Agreed. Tough right now. I have really been floored by some friends of mine who are big time shooters and hunters, a couple have hundreds of rifles, reload for everything how little prepared they are. Suggestion is once you find the powders you need to stock up. I like Reloader 15, Varget and H4831SC and use them in many, many rifles. I have given friends right close to a 100lbs in the past year in just these three powders alone but have now had to stick firm on no more as I am getting concerned that this shortage is not letting up soon. I probably am down to 2 years worth of supply on them. Powders I use a lot I try to keep at least 40 LBS on hand. Powders I use often 20 or so and I rarely buy less than 8 lbs of anything. Same with primers. I have been loading for over 20 years now and this is the second bad shortage I can remember. When I was in high school in the 90's there was a mass primer shortage as well.

There is a fair amount of powder online these days but pistol powders are tricky to find.

Yes, as of now I'm looking for powder appropriate for reloading pistol ammo. Once I get more dies and experience I'll be loading for rifle as well.

Look into using Power Pistol...there is a fair bit of that around.

Look for VIHTAVUORI powders as they are often overlooked by other reloaders. Just google their reloading manual.

Power pistol? Where can I find it in stock? I would gladly buy a 4 pound jug.

There is a store in Gainesville, TX that has a bunch. They told me that it was the only pistol powder they could get at will.

3rd Generation will have Varget, Benchmark, 8208XBR, 4831, 380, and some others in stock 1st week of March. Good People and they usually get a large enough order that it's in stock for a week. Eight & one lbers.
