Which of the listed .338 bullets would be the best choice for brown bear? Or is there much difference in their performance??
Nosler 250gr. partition gold
Fail Safe 230gr.
Swift A-Frame 250gr.
Penetration and bone breaking ability.. michauxii4570@juno.com

All 3 are good.

The Nosler has a very heavy jacket on the front half and they moved the partition more towards the nose than the regular 250gr Partitions.

Another one not to overlook, would be the 240gr Northfork.

I have a couple of buds, who shot browns with their 338's. One used Federal factory with Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, the other used handloads with Barnes X's. No problems with either.

I'd go with the Swift A-Frame or the Northfork.

North Fork makes a 240 and 250 grain, I would look at those first, then any of those you mentioned, picking the one that shoots best in your rifle. [Wink] Good shooting.

The Swift bullet will expand to a wider frontal diameter. The Nosler will not retain as much weight as the others. The Fail Safe has been known to shoot through both shoulders of a moose and exit. I'd bet on the FS, but would not worry about any of them getting the job done. E

Gentlemen Thanks for your replies. Pretty much as i expected. All three are excellent bullets. I did speak with Mike at North Fork Bullets today and ordered some 240gr. bullets. Will start testing all the mentioned bullets next week.
In the past i've used the Nosler bullet as my"standard"-- and compared all others to its performance. And it's a damn fine bullet. However lately, seems like i'm comparing all bullet performance to the North Fork. I do enjoy shooting small groups with big bullets but hate copper cleaning and fooling with Moly bullets. NF has yet to "let me down." [Smile]

Mich,

Send me an e-mail. I will make you a heck of a deal on Groove Bullets for your test.
