I have had this set of dies for several years. and never used them. I tried to resize some fire formed winchester brass and found that I had run out too .007" I contacted redding and after a long conversation with the tech he came to conclusion that the die was for a 40* winchester chamber not a 40* ackley, whats the diffrence?? so i sent the die back along with 5 fired cases. Got the die back and they stated that they had replaced the die body. it is stamped 40* win. the same as Before same date code ?? they also stated that the die is only guranteed to fit SAAmi chambers. OK ? Run out is better but the brass is kicked to one side .003" I tried two diffrent expander balls and that didnt make any diffrence.its the same with or with out the expander. I used some new win brass that had a run out of .0005" or less and it came out at.0025" to .003" looks like i got $90 worth of junk. Thanks for listening.

Hivelosity, are you sure about that runout on the factory WW brass. 0005 on brass out of the bag is strong as battery acid! I've never seen it that good with WW or any other for that matter. Having said that, what do you mean that the brass is kicked over to one side? Just curious. Also if your getting the same effect with or without expander, could your shellholder be askew? Hopefully if it ain't fixable Redding won't leave you hanging.

the run out is correct I went through and picked out a few that were less than .001 trying to see where the problem was. kicked to one side. When i roll the brass you can see a definite wobble in the necks. It looks as if the neck may be off center to the body. the die sizes about 80% of the neck and when i measure i get a round neck but it is not in the same aleignment as the body. tried diffrent shell holders also diffrent expanders. I have a set of rcbs fl dies and with the same brass run out is .002 or less

Hivelosity , I have a .243 AI myself and read on another forum about there being 2 different FLS dies available from Redding . Measure a fireformed case at the junction of the body and the shoulder . Your measurement should either be 0.460 (most common) or 0.454 depending upon which reamer your smith used . Now measure a full length sized case at the same point .If there is a big difference in measurement you probably have the wrong die . In my rifle (using a Redding die marked .243 Win Imp 40 Degree FL V2) full length resizing reduces the measurement from 0.460 to about 0.459 . I haven't got the tools to measure neck runout but none visible to the naked eye . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood. thanks the die in question is a neck sizeing die. Befor i contact redding again i am going to make a cast of the die and try to determine if the neck is out of aleigm with the body.

Hivelosity, I think you're on the right track there, I wasn't thinking that your die was a neck sizing die. I think Bushcook gave you some good input there, but if it is neck only die it must be bad as it shouldn't be affecting the body of the case. Strange indeed...... One quick question--it isn't a collet type die is it? I had a buddy who had the bushings get 'cocked' on his die and the got then misaligned neck problem you described. He ended up figuring out that he had gotten a piece of gunk between the bushings and the die and he cleaned everything by putting it into his tumbler and he was good to go. Just a thought. Good Luck--Don

thanks don, no it is not a bushing or collet die Standard neck die. I have to get some cerrosafe next week and do a cast to try and determine whats what. also the die only resizes about 70 to 80% of the neck with it adjusted to the shell holder. Tried some of the brass though the chamber on the rifle and some chambered hard looks like there is more going on with this die

Hivelosity, you've definitely got some goofiness there. I'll be interested to hear what your cast shows you. Good Luck--Don
