I just switched over to Winchester WST for shooting through my 45 auto. I am using 230 Grain Montana Gold Bullets (2nds, there cheaper). With Winchester Primers. Do you guys have any good loads? I am loading them for IPSC and I need to make the "Major" power factor. There are going to be shot through a 1911. Thanks Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Go to the Winchester powder site, get their data for the wgt and style bullet you`re shooting, start low and work up. Watch your crony and only go until you just break "major Power" velocity. You don`t want to excede the power factor or you are just fighting extra recoil that you don`t have to. If you don`t have a cronograph you can`t tell if you hit major or not, and unless the load is worked up in your gun with a crono, no one else can do more then guess at a load for you. ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? Where are you picking up the seconds? I didn't see them on their site. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

My 230-0grain loads that make major power are loaded with Unique or HS 6. I prefer the HS 6 because it meters well and accurately, but Unique has to be weighed....... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

I really like loading those heavier bullets in 45 ACP with AA No 5 and it meters well.

I like WST in the .45acp, but I load it under 200grLSWC, 5.2gr. Check the web site. http://www.winchester.com/pdf/CatalogPDF/page27.pdf LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

with a 230 g. pill, try 6.0 grains of viht. n340 and work your way up. cleanest burn imo. "Earth First, we'll mine the other planets later" "Strip mining prevents forest fires"

I go along with Fredj338 200gr SWC and 5.0 to 5.2gr. WST CLEAN, accurate, and makes major with nice recoil. Lt. Robert J. Dole, 10th Mountain, Italy.

I've used 5.4 grains of Unique with 230 grain cast lead to recreate Military ball, 850 fps neighborhood. I think it burns a little dirty, but that could be from the bullet lube A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

They aren't on there website. You have to have connections. I have a buddy who lives in Kalispell. I normally call MT Gold and see if they have any seconds. If they do, I have my buddy pick them up for me. I just picked up these last ones and saved $20 per 1,000. Sometimes they have seconds and sometimes they don't. They were out of .45's (I got the last ones) Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

Thanks to all. I looked on the Winchester link and found the load range. Bullet has to be traveling at over 717fps to make major factor with a 230 Grain Bullet. bullet weight x velocity ________________________ = Power Factor (165 to make major) 1000 230 x X ______________ = 165 1000 165 X 1000 __________= X 230 X = 717.39 FPS (I can't belive I actually used math I learned in 7th grade to figure out a gun problem. This is scaring the shit out of me.....I'm going to bed and will try not to remember this.) Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. 6.0 of VV N-340 under a Zero 230JHP turns in very tight groups in my 5" 1911's. 6.2 of VV N-330 / Zero 230JHP is even better. No N-330 load data found for the 45acp, so I started a couple of tenths under the N-340, & worked up 1/10 grn at a time. It's a bit faster then the 340, but not much. No pressure signs noted. Seems well suited to 230JHP (haven't tried ball yet), in a 5" 1911. Both burn clean & meter well w/ my Dillon 550. Regards - GCF "Sometimes you make eight - Sometimes you hit dirt"

When the bullet manufactures make bullets, all tolerances have to be exact. So what the company does is fun a few thousand through and see if they are perfect. If they are they will keep running the machines, if they see a color problem or if the bullets are having problems of some kind they fix the problem and run it again. These test run bullets are seconds. I have measured and remeasured 2nds and never had a problem. It is normally hard to get your hands on these bullets because they are cheaper. I have also heard that if one bullet is discolored they sweep out a couple g's of them just so they won't have a problem in there 1st's. Nosler has a ton at the factory that you can always buy. I've used these for pdoggin and for big game, and never once had a problem. Mink and Wall Tents don't go together. Especially when you are sleeping in the Wall Tent. DRSS .470 & .500

Might want to make it a big one.... ;=] I could not find any 340 locally, so tried the 330 - just because it was available. Happy happy. Seems comparable to AA5 - but cleaner, & w/ better load density. It takes a much heavier load to get comparable accuracy w/ the #5 - w/ my 5" guns at least. Not sure about power factor, but the following is the load I use for IPSC, STeel, and IDPA. Montana Gold 200 gr FP 5.0 gr. Hodgdon Titegroup Winchester WLP primer Shot Steel this morning with no problem but after talking to some of the other shooters am tempted to go back to a lead bullet, like the Precision moly coated. Near half the cost, and just as effective. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt

I used 200gn.SWC in front of 4.9 - 5.1 gn. of N320 depending on the barrel and gun. Makes clean holes, very accurate and great recoil properties. Another power, N318 works in a pinch but is harder to meter. Don
