Does anyone have a chronograph ed actual 2700+ FPS with the standard .280 Rem and a cup & Core 175 grain bullet? I'm starting load development for my 22" VZ-24 in .280 Rem and I want to shoot the 175 A-Frame but need a minimum of 2700 FPS to make the trajectory I want. I'm willing to go to 60,000 PSI as well.... If this isn't realistic, I can save the cost of 175 grain A-Frames and go to 160-162 grain bullets. From the Hodgdon data I have, this is borderline! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." My first rifle I built about 40 yrs ago was a std 280 Rem. Not sure the brand of barrel but it was 24". I know I was using a max load of MRP and the one time I ran it across a Chrono I was testing a number of loads for it. I "remember" it being just under 2800 but I know it was warm (i loaded for max back then) in my rifle. QL says it is "doable" with a 22" but it will be 60,000+ As usual just my $.02 Paul K

You'd really have to push it to get what you're looking for in a 22" barrel. If the 2700 fps. is a must, do it at lower pressure with a different cartridge. I've got a .358 that will push a 250 @ 3100fps. that I'll loan you. It does have a 24" barrel ,however. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! I just checked my charts for cup and core 175 under 2800fps and they need these twists. Hor Rn-1/10" Sp 1/9, Sierra Mk 1/8 SPBT 1/9, Speer GRSlam and Magtip 1/10", Woodlieght PP 1/9" Thats off of charts and not how they might work in your gun. This place sells bullets at a price-per-bullets so you can try 10-15 to see if they will work. They go for about double the box cost per bullet but if they don't work you are not sitting on 85 bullets that don't work in your gun. I just checked and they have 5 or 6 brands but no 175 but 163-168-180gr and smaller. http://www.bulletsamples.com

I might be able to locate some 175gr PSP Remingtons on the shelf if you want to do some Pressure Testing. Won't be the same as an A-Frame, but close enough to give you an idea of the possibilities. PM me if you want some of them.

Thanks...that's an excellent idea.... I'll do some more checking as well....maybe someone locally has a few. I have a great deal of respect for the quickload data from Ramrod....I think it's worth a try.....I'm really sold on the 2-0-8-2-4 trajectory and a 175 at 2700 makes it nicely! Roger is right about the larger cartridge, but the .280 Rem is already built. Now it's a matter of finding the right load for it. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Hello vapodog, I used to have a 7x64, almost a .280 Rem twin (actually the Rem has a very little more volume). My best load was with reformed .30-06 brass, Nosler Partition 175 gra, CCI 200 primer, and a drop tube charged and compressed a little 58 grs IMR7828 or 57 grs R22 powder. Just 2700 f/s. Great load in my Mannlicher-Schoenauer GK Rifle with 24" barrel. Best Regards PH
