How do I get the decapper pin out of the case? I also will need to know how to get it correctly back into the die. It is a Lee full length die. I did lube, but maybe not enough???? Going to order some Emperial wax tonight.....

Use a Dremel cutoff wheel to cut the case open at one end to get out your decapper.

Be mindful to keep the case at an angle to avoid hitting the decapper.

Is the decapping pin still screwed into the die?

If not, remove the case from the die, cut off either the base or the shoulder and remove the decapping pin.

If the pin is still in the die, unscrew the lock nut, then unscrew the decapping pin and let the pin drop into the case then remove the case from the die, cut off either the base or the shoulder and remove the decapping pin.

Thanks!! I assume I can then re-insert the pin back into the die by uncrewing the top screw and then reassemble?

Yes! This is nothing to do with case lube, rather the size of the flash hole in the case. Of course it could also be that you didn't have the tension enough to hold the decapping pin. BTW it is not the top screw, rather the knurled tapered nut at the end of the decapping rod.

First, I'm assuming your case is not still stuck in your die?

Since it is a Lee FL sizing die, just remove the top collet from the die body by unscrewing it. Raise the die in the press a couple of turns (assuming the case was originally stuck, which caused this problem, this will keep it from getting stuck again.) Then feed the well-lubricated case with the decapping/expander rod into the die in your press just like normal. With the top of the decapping/expander rod sticking out of the top of the die, slip the collet back onto it, and screw it back into the die. Tighten it securely. Then withdraw the case from the die with the press ram, and you're done. You'll have to re-adjust your die before you use it again.

As mentioned, the simplest way is to simply cut off the bottom of the case and let the rod out that way. If you are cheap (and we all are at some point!) just figure out how to back the clamping nut from the die and re-grip the rod. What I'd do is remove the die and hold it upside down and feed the decapper in that way, then re-install the lock nut thing and put it back in the press with the case dangling down below. When in the press tighten down the decapper gripper nut and wiggle the case back into the shell holder and pull it off. If you have plenty of cases in this caliber personally I'd just grab a hacksaw and be done with it 10 seconds later, but if you only have a limited number of cases or the case is a wildcat or something it is not that much of a deal to put the rod back in, probably faster to do that than to read about it here.

Sounds like you need to lube the INSIDE of the necks when resizing. These expander rods ,and Hornady's too, need the collet TIGHT or they will slip.

ALL FLASHOLES ( VENTS, old term ) are not the same size and all pins are not the same. foreign flasholes are smaller some times esp. .223.

I have moved away from integral de-capping pins. I know have a 'universal' de-capping tool that I use for 22 hornet, 25 and 303. I use my own custom neck sizers that give minimum sizing that does not require the expander. But if I want to size conventionally, I still use the 'universal' de-capper followed by the sizer without the pin present. This de-capper tool cannot get stuck. It’s a solid piece that fits the press.
