I got good groups with R22 and 140gr ballistic tips.Accurate arms has a powder that is suppose to be very good with this caliber.I read that on there web site.For long range shooting I would not use Remington brass.I believe Nosler makes brass for this caliber,also Winchester.Even if you have the best powder and bullet combo,using poor brass will ruin everything.

I use Remington brass , what's wrong with it ?.

I also use Norma and some older Winchester & Federal stuff I purchased years ago . I've been meaning to see if RWS manufactures 7 Rem Mag.. Anybody know if they do ?. I've been using Lapua and RWS brass in other calibers they are my number 1 & 2 brass choices now .

I've had very good results with a powder which is no longer available to most people H870 . Shooting 156 - 160 grain projectiles .

I also use 58.5 grains of IMR 4831 , 62.4 of IMR 7828 with very good results .

Some of my finest loads have produced groups of less than 1.75 at 500 yards. Now that was from no hunting rifle.The rifle was built to 1000 yard light gun specs. The bullets were Sierra 168 Matchkings. They were in Norma brass weighed from large lots, all within one grain of each other. The two best loads were 70.0grs of H1000 with the bullet seated .020 of the lands. The second load was 74.5 grs of Retumbo. This load is the one I go with and it is very stable. Humidity and temp don't seem to bother it. The powder charge is compressed but that seems to work well in my rifle. I have also had very good results with 140gr bullets over top of 65.5grs of IMR4350. This charge is over the more recent manuals but is well below max in manuals that are say pre-1990. This is the load I hunt with when I have a chance to shoot ridge to ridge back in PA. I get at least six reloads from the brass before swapping it out for new. I myself never had great luck with either of the 4831 powders. And 7828 never panned out in my guns. Hope this helps somewhat.

Norma brass is superb. I can get TIR of less than .002" in 90% of my loads, less than .004" in the rest, using Redding comp. seater.

61.0 gr of Viht N165 under a 150gr Nosler BT was my go-to accutacy load in a custom 7mm RM I had a while back. Come to think of it, Viht N165 was an integral part of any accuracy load in that rifle. Velocity is a bit slow compared to other powders, but accuracy was supurb. I shot my best 5-shot group ever with that combination, 0.092" according to my notes.

Yup, when I was doing the 1000 yard thing, the 168gr Sierra/ H1000 was my favorite. For long range hunting I like the 154gr SST with an appropriate charge of Re 25.

100 yards, 3-4 shots, one hole. I'd have to look back in my log book at exactly how many shots that is.

I did it again in KY late this past summer, but didn't bother with more pictures.

I shot a deer in KY, and in Colorado with same load. Outside of Casper, at a rifle range, I shot it at 300 yards and grouped 1.3" in strong cross winds.

In KY, there was no wind, or hardly any, and I shot with a bipod, prone, at 335 yards (the longest alfalfa field) and it was 1" lower than POI compared to WY. The group was the about the same.

idk if my gun is capable of that kind of accuracy but thats definitely what i am shooting for.

here are some of my groups with different C.O.L 's @ 100yds.

1.) C.O.L-->3.366-3.369 (-0.010 from rifling)

2.) C.O.L-->3.355-3.356 (-0.020 from rifling )

3.) C.O.L-->3.267-3.269 (seated at bottom of cantalour)

4.) C.O.L-->3.374-3.376 (-0.050 from rifling)

5.) C.O.L-->3.378-3.379 (-0.000 from rifling)

ALL LOADS ARE: 66.5 GR. H4831SC , 139 GR. HORNADY SST INTERLOCK

GUN: REMINGTON 700 ADL (7MM MAG) W/ NIKON BUCKMASTER SCOPE(4.5X14X40mm)

RED GROUP IS WITH C.O.L#4 FROM ABOVE, BLACK IS C.O.L#3

THIS IS AN AVERAGE ESTIMATION OF ACCURACY CAPABILITIES BASED ON THE ABOVE PICTURES

THIS IS A GROUP I SHOT , NOT EXACTLY SURE WITH WHAT LOAD- I THINK IT WAS THE SAME LOAD WITH C.0.L#3 BUT IM NOT SURE, THAT I WAS NEVER ABLE TO REPRODUCE.

all of the 200-400yd shots were fired from the prone position from a bipod. ive never shot over 200 yds with this gun before this and was pleased with the 300yd groups. this accuracy is more than sufficient from a hunting rifle for deer or cyote, but i would like to fine tune my load to make it shoot at 400yds like it does at 300.

the brass im using is winchester WW SUPER, those groups were fired with brass already shot twice before. i dont tumble or clean my brass and it seems my accuracy is getting worse( at 100 yds) the more i load.

should i get some new brass or just clean mine better?

is there a better load for H4831SC with the 139gr. SST interlock?

I have worked up a load using Re-22 and 175gr Hornady SPs that is quite accurate and consitent at 100 yds (20 shots covered with a quarter). According to my Hornady book, it's slightly over max, according to my Nosler book it's near max. No pressure signs shown in my Browning A-Bolt II w/BOSS. As usual, start lower and work up. If you want the details of the load, PM me.

Check the 1970 Wimbledon Cup results.
PO2 Thomas N Treinen won it with a 7MM Remington Magnum.

He shot a perfect score of 100 with 20Vs then shot 12 more Vs.

Edited to add the loading data

According to my Sierra first edition manual copyright 1971

The text says Treinen used a load of 66.5 grains of the old H4831 with the Sierra 168 grain MK for a MV of 3020 FPS.

Please note the manual's actual loading data table tops out at 65.6 grains for the same combination using Remington brass and 9 1/2 M Remington primers.

Using r-22,fed 215 primers,rem brass and the 140gr ballistic tip,I had no problems achieving 4" groups at 400 yards with my factory 700.A friends sako 75 does even better with the same load and using the 140gr tsx.I have had no problems at all using remington brass,as my 7mmm stw and 300ultramag rifles easily shoot 1/2 MOA to 3/4 MOA using remington brass.

I have reloaded the 7mm mag for almost 30 years. That does not make me an expert by any means! The go to load for me, and this is a hunting load is 140 gr sierra boat tail on top of 67 gr of h4831. Less than 3/4 inch at one hundred yards, and my son shot a nine point 210 lb at 402 yds. No exit hole but I removed the heart in three pieces. Works for me.
