Help me pick a bullet for long range varmints with the .264 Win Mag. The rifle has a new 1-9 twist 26" barrel. I have plenty of H870 so velocities will be up there.
The Hornady 140 gr VMAX has a Ci of .550 but it's listed as a 1-8 twist. The Sierra 140 gr SBT has a Ci of .495.
I am not really that interested in finding out if MK's expand or not at 800 yds so I hope the thread does not go there.
I may also have another load for shorter range on hand for the fun of it. Does anyone suggest the 95 gr VMAX? It has a Ci of .365
Savage99, I shot a lot of 120 grain Sierra spitzers out of my .264 WM. The were great for larger varmints at any range you can hit them at. Back then I was stuck with surplus 4831. I tried H-870 and wasn't very happy with the results. If I were loading a .264 like yours today. I think I'd try H-4831SC on bullets 125 grains or less. For heavier bullets I'd give H-1000 a try. Good luck.
i've used the 129 gr. Hornady SST, but not out of a rifle, only in an XP pistol. i can't remember what the B.C. is right now, but i'm sure it's up there. Maybe you ought to try that 140 A-Max. It might just work. A lot of those VLD designs have some play in the twist rate they'll work out of. I've heard some reports lately that guys are getting some expansion out of them also. It should expand "some", since it's got unintentional expansion qualities built right into that tip. Take a look at it, in Hornady's brochure.

By the way, check out www.longrangehunting.com. The boys in there are LR specialists, and extremely educated in that discipline. It's right up your alley.
