The last few time I have been tothe range I have shot random groups of 200 gr Accubonds w/70.2 gr RL 22 in my 300 win. Largest group being about .725 and the smallest being about .345, most were right around or just under .5. I did not chrono this load ? With this type of accuracy I don't know why I shouldn't use this load. My question is What is the minimal that you guys would take for muzzle velocity with this ? I don't have a very fast barrel and it is 24" long. I guess I just don't want to lob the bullets in there. Thanks

I say accuracy always trumps velocity but thats just me.
What is the primary use of this load going to be?
That may shed some light on the answer to your question. If it is used for Deer at mediocre ranges I doubt they would know the difference of a couple hundred FPS.

Mule deer and elk. I probably wouldn'y shoot over 400. Conditions would have to be perfect to shoot that far. Thanks

Well load tech calls it around 2850 which is close to the Nosler book. So figure 2700-2800? Using those figures you have a point blank range of 269 & 279yds with a 6" radius. That does require a 2.5-2.7" 100yd zero and you are still 19-20" low at 400. More like 6" at 300yds.

For me that would be a great 300 yd load. Energy would not be an issue I'd prefer something flatter for 400.

As usual just my $.02

FWIW, Nosler lists an impact velocity range of 1800-3100 fps for the Accubond. I am not a 300 Win Mag expert (have never owned one, shot one, or reloaded one) but I'd guess you'd be getting 2900 fps or so with that load???? I'm seperated from my Nosler manual at the moment. With the ballistic coefficient of that bullet you should be plenty good to 400+ yards.

Thanks I will try to chrono on Sun if I get a moment. I would be happy with 2800 fps.

I am gettin just a few fps slower than 2800 with my .300 WSM. If you are getting 2775 to 2850 I would say you are as fast as you need to be. My WSM loves the Accubond, I have shot 200 yard groups with it that measure just barely over any inch.

I shot mine with H 1000 last year and it was pretty good but the last couple times out with RL 22 have been amazing. I might try to up it a little, depending on velocity.

With the load you suggest, if you can hit him properly, you can kill him further than you can visually tell what he is. The 300 Winny with a 200gr bullet will reach out there.
