hi all,
i have a couple of girls wanting to come down to the local range to shoot for the first time and i dont want to scare them off with a sore shoulder.
i only have a .308 and a 30.30 marlin to shoot, with 150 grain winchester ppfn and ppsp and a heap of adi ar2208 powder, i cant get to the shopso need to load this. i was wondering how to load a light recoiling round for them to have a go.
the adi sight has the .308 starting charge at 44 grains and max at 47 and the 30.30 starting at 31 to 34.5 grains. how low can i go safely?
this is just for fun so not desperate for high accuracy but i want to be safe and not get a projectile stuck halfway down the barrel.
thanks for the info.

Hey Greg, Is there any chance at all you would consider getting some 110gr RNs and some H4895 or Blue Dot? If so, you could whip up some very mild Plinkers for the Ladies at little expense.

I don't have any of the AR2208 Powder and have never used it, so I can't help you there. I don't know if it would be SAFE to down-load it very much or not. And since I don't, that is why I'm recommending you consider buying the other Powder(s).

The 150gr bullets will work, but still provide more recoil than the 110gr bullets would, and that would benefit the Beginners.

Best of luck to you.

thanks hot core,
i would have got to the shop and got more suitable projectiles and powder if i could but it was sat arvo and there shut and we were going down sunday morning.
i ended up reading on the adi web sight that they dont recomend loads under 75% of max so i loaded that. it was 36 grains, i have no crono so dunno the speed but they shot ok, about 18 inches low at 200 to the guns normal load. but only 4 inches low at 100. so i didnt even have to mess with the scope, i just got them to aim high.
the trip was a sucess as my wife came!!! first time ever shot any thing!!! she only shot the .22 but i think she had fun. the other two were more game and we even had one shooting the full loads by the end of the day!! they all thanked me repeatedly so must have enjoyed themselves, i was just happy not to scare them off, but i think they may well be back.

Hey Greg, That is a great report. I'm glad you were able to find some suitable Loads for your on-hand components.

Always nice when you get some more people into shooting and especially nice when the ladies are a part of it all.

Congratulations on a fine, well done job.
