Just picked up another pound of IMR 4895, it was 21dollars and change. A year ago it was 17.95 here in Iowa. Pretty healthy increase. How is it where you live?

I haven't had to buy any for a while. Picked up 24 lbs of Accurate Data 86 Extruded (basically Accurate 3100, works great in .243 Win, 6.5x55 and .270 WSM) for $69.95 per 8 lb jug. A short time later was able to purchase 2 8 lb. jugs of Ramshot TAC for $79.00 each, plus shipping and hazmat, of course. So I just will use the TAC for the .223 Rem and the Data 86 in everything else, while waiting for Powder Valley to have another special on something else that sounds like it should work.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

Last year at Sportsman's Warehouse it was $19.99.
It is now $21.99.
The 8lb jugs jumped from about $134 to $142 and change.
Bullets and brass have gone up about 20 to 25%.

I noticed some Remington premium .22 WMR was $14.99 a box and the equivalent .17 HMR by Hornady was a couple bucks higher.

We do group buys up here from Powder Valley and split the HazMat and shipping costs.

Two years ago 1 Lb of IMR4064 was over $26 with tax here.

None of my area's gunstores have raised powder prices, but ammo, primers and bullets have gone up.

I saw clinton like this coming in Fall of 2006, and so loaded up on the good stuff. I have more powder, bullets and primers than I can shoot in ten years. I won't say anything about how much I have stored away in factory ammo. It's good to be single...

I'm midway between Raleigh, NC and Richmond, Va. So I have been buying at shows over locals for a long time. The locals are real GOUGERS. But since I now chip in $20 for gas to the driver of our group to go , and it costs me $20 for the ticket and a nice lunch I've started ordering normal powders and primers from Powder Valley. Shipping and hazmat worked out to $30 for a $190 order recently.

Some of the suppliers at the shows have been less than reasonable for quite a while but I stayed with them because of the show frequency and options, but its hard to do that now in view on my past "brand" loyalty in spite of their pricing, especially since some of the firearms dealers at the shows make a firearms purchase a long shot because of greed, so that there is less reason to go and buy anything.

Found a good deal on 32 pounds of the Canadian 4895 at $8.00 per pound.
What I'm worried about is when I need to replace the 12 pounds of IMR 4064 and 10 pounds of IMR 3031 that I use more often the 4895.

Gidday Frank,

I'm sure a prevert like you would have plenty of friends here anyway. clap

The ridiculous thing is that the ADI (Hogdon) powders are made nextdoor in Aus yet it is cheaper in the US half a world away.

Much like NZ butter being sold in London cheaper than Pak n Save in Moorhouse Ave in Christchurch which is 7km from the factory. Go figure.

When are you out here next Frank?

Happy Hunting

Well, I hope to be there either October or November. I'm negotitating a deal between my company and Air New Zealand so I'll have the General Manager of ANZ Gas Turbines up here in a couple of weeks. I'll probably have to go down there for the next meeting.

I have a Kiwi or two working up here in my shop at least once a month and we're doing more and more of their US work for them as contractors and they want to make it a more formal deal.

Gidday Frank,

Who is the GM of Gas and Turbines for Air NZ now?

I almost married the daughter of Peter Jacobs a few years ago just after he left that position to set up his consultancy in the UK. I got to spend quite a few nights socialising with them.

You'll like this..... just looked at one of my Dupont (IMR) cans and on the cap is the pricetag...$2.98.....and I suspect I thought it was high then as I was used to buying 4831 surplus for 50 cents a pound at that time!

Richard Ison is the GM of the new ANZ Gas Turbine part of Air New Zealand and John Callesen is the Commercial Manager.

They've split the gas turbine business off from the airline.
