I was going to have Superior Ammo whip me up a couple of loads for my new 9.3x62 before I get my reloading stuff going on the new home front her in Austin. While looking at their bullet options for .366 cals, I noticed that Hawk bullets have the greatest selection of bullet weights. Does anyone have any experience with these, or has anyone heard anything about them?

I believe that they are all-lead cores and copper linings. They are soft points only. I picked that up on the website, but I'm looking for some first or second hand sources that have actually used the bullet, or heard from others how they perform on such game as African plains game, elk, and deer.

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I'm relatively new to the forum, and I don't spend much time in this thread. That's soon to change, I hope. Thanks fellas.

I have some for a 411 and have loaded some in 416. Other than a hog I haven't shot anything with them. I know my buddy killed a good size moose with 350s.

Here are some comments about the Hawk bullets.

Thanks a bunch ramrod. I've found it's getting pretty tough to find someone on some of these sites that will actually take the time to help a fella out w/out being smug or condescending... thanks again.

Maybe I've just been interacting with the wrong folks.

I shot a lot of game with them on one Safari (arround 25 to 30 head) and found them way too soft for the .338 even with the heavier bullets...

I also had one Hawk bullet blow to shreads on the neck of a spike buck from a 7x57, it was a heavy jacketed 160 or 175 gr. bullet. I posted that one at the time.

Needless to say I'm not too impressed..I believe that I posted some of those .338s that I recovered in Africa some years back on AR..

They are old fashion bullets that control expansion by bullet jacket thickness and toughness and soft lead. No locking design, Had to deal with that half my early life, no more, from now on its premium modern bullets for me when I go to the game fields.

I suspect they might work in the old black powder guns where low velocity makes it a lot easier to get fairly good results..

I've used the 300 grain RN 9.3 bullet for quite a while. Good expansion, excellent penetration. I've always gotten an exit, and have never recovered one. I'd use Woodleighs for heavier game, but Hawks are fine for ordinary game.

Here is a link to Mr. Gary Sciuchetti's Bullet Test. It is a very large File and compares 180gr 30cal Bullets from a lot of manufacturers.

I realize it is not specific to a 0.366" Bullet, but you can see how well his Design compares to a lot of other Bullets when striking a similar medium.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks HOTCORE, that's a cool liitle site. It should keep me busy for a few hours.

Thanks for the info 400 Nitro and RAY.

I guess they might be a good round for a 45/70 or down-loaded 458 win mag on hogs etc. Everything you guys have said and the info I got on other forums etc. has generally been pretty negative when the Hawks were used with smaller, faster moving bullets. I think I'll stick to my woodleighs, swift a-frames, and nosler partitions.

Those Bullets you mentioned get a lot of praise and extremely limited negative input on this site. If you go to the top of the page, click on "Find" and wham in Northfork you will find a lot of folks swear by them.

Mr. Sciuchetti still had some of those prints available for $15 a couple of years ago. It includes the shipping inside a Tube and is well worth the money.

If you want to see if he still has any, his email was:

By the way, when you are looking at the Chart, be sure to see how well the really old, ancient wasp-waisted Remington RNs did. Pitiful that they ever went away from that design.

Lots of great Bullets available for you. Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.
