Does anyone know of a source for ballistic software (drop, wind drift etc) which can be run on a Palm Pilot. I don't want to take a lap top to Africa just so I can check trajectories etc in the field. Thanks in advance, mike

Hell Mike, I'm bloody glad you didn't book with me! - I'd be cursing you if you produced one of those bloody things just when we're getting on finals on a herd of Buffalo or something. Why not just do it on the KISS principle and memorise what's necessary......

I didn't know they (Palm Pilots) still existed. Could you not simply enter the data into the memo function or perhaps have them printed on a small card and laminated? In the end, I think shakari is spot on...you dont want to over think things. Know the impact points at 100,200,300 and 400 and then rely on your PH for the yardage.

Hi I downloaded some shareware software a couple of years ago that is pretty interesting. It was called 'Ballistics' written by a guy named 'Mike Finch' Box 10656 Blacksburg VA 24062. If you do a search you you should be able to find it. It has a number of functions inculding but not limited to: Energy Rate of twist Recoil Lead etc. Good luck.

I like the idea of ballistics on my PDA; something to play with on the long haul accross. However, it would be bad form in the field. Often, I have taped a small square of vital info, from 100-600 yards, on the stock of my rifle. After a couple of trips, the stuff was so ingrained in my head, I knew it by heart. *************************Conservationist. Reformed Attorney. Producer of Outdoor Media. www.stevescott.tv

Pejsa is a very good program for your PDA. I use it for different loads to 1000 yards, and a little further. "The irony is, if you're willing to kill a perpetrator, you probably won't have to." Massad Ayoob

You might want to sign up over here...... http://longrangehunting.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php and ask your question. These guys are taking computers to the field (as well as other items that help them judge wind and horizontal effects of uphill/downhill scenarios) and cosistantly making kills on big game animals at 1000+ yds.

I have one called "pocket Sharpshooter's friend". It works very easily and can keep data for a number of rifles and loads. I downloaded it for free off of one of the free Palm software sites, but I don't remember which one. The guy that wrote it is Russian, and his website is unintelligible. Do a search with a search engine and see what you find. Fast Ed Measure your manhood not by success, but by significance.

Gee Steve, don't you like the client to have a chance to savour the shot. When hunting a PACbull last year we came upon the elephant and I couldn't get a reading on my rangefinder and we had to back track about 5 yards before I could get a reading of 13 yards. mike

Mike Something that might help is that leupold sells a pull out chart that you mount on your scope. You can print out your data with a Dymo Labelmaker and paste it to the slide out chart. Bad weather won't affect it unless your standing in a deep pool. It's not obtrusive and weighs next to nothing. Best wishes, Bill
