Ok most of you all know of my headaches with my Weatherby 7-08. I picked up a Ruger 308win the other day. Well, I am in the barrel break in process. I have done the Fire one, clean, Fire one, clean for 10 shots and today done three cycles of Fire 3 and clean. I saw it happening as I fired, but went to pull the target when I was finished and all 9 shots are in the 3 inch black circle. In fact, I measured it and for 9 shots it was 1.96" I am thrilled with this. It has already beat the best I shot with the Weatherby and Im still in the break in. I used 150gr. Win. PP factory. I can't wait to find a good load that it likes and see how good it can be. If it shoots factory like that what can I expect to look for from Reloads? How is that sounding. I know many of you all can shoot better than that, but hey after all the suffering Ive been going through with that 7-08 this was a very inspiring happy treat. Lets just hope it continues to be consistent and get better.

Whitey, Let me know what bullet weight you'd like to shoot, got some info, if you'd like it. Actually, mostly for 150grain bullets, what I suggest for deer hunting, anyway. Jay

I have a ruger .308 M77 ultralight, and with good loads it'll put 3 into a 1/2" group at 100 yds, two shots in one hole with the 3rd a little bit out.

The best factory ammo I tried was rem 180 gr rn factory loads, they'd print 3/4" or under.

I did bed the rifle, polish the trigger and put an over-travel screw in the trigger housing. Reloads have been fl sized brass, thrown charges and run of the mill RCBS dies.

From what I've seen with this rifle, and other Rugers, I kinda wonder about the statements that Rugers don't shoot.

Maybe Ruger adressed the rumours I don't know ??

Today I shot a few rounds(exactly 10) with my new ruger 77 stainless in 3006 and i was imperessed by balance and even accuracy as i deed off hand shooting to regulate the bushnell scope on it the first 5 was for regulating the scope which was very low ,but after regulating the 5 other shots went around 1 inch with 2x2 in one hole and one flyer which opened upp to 1 inch . it was standing @ 40 meters distance. i love the new synthetic stock on it it is very good i felt nearly no recoil att all ammo was norma jaktmatch 15o gr fmj@ 2770 fps(according to norma). great guns .but still I wish they made the barrel with at least 0,625 inch at muzzle.

Well, so much for Rugers not shooting--I have a .25-06 that I bought new in the early 70s that shoots W-W factory 120 gr Positive Expanding Point loads into a half-inch, and my Hornady 120 gr HP reloads into 3/4". I also have a 7mag made in '76 that shoots 150 gr Nosler BTs under an inch. The last group I shot (2 wks ago) to verify zero, was .49", and the rifle isn't bedded and has its original trigger. The .25-06 is bedded and has a Timney.

There's every chance that after break-in and careful load development you'll cut those groups in half. Many Rugers shoot very well, especially the "All-Weather" versions.

Just check the screws as you go, and make sure they stay tight.......
