I see PMP South African ammo cheap on the internet. Is it any good? How about the brass, is it good for reloading? I'm thinking about .223, 22-250, .270, 30-06, 300win, and .303 British.

PMP brass is good. Ammo is loaded with basic jacketed unbonded lead core bullets. The Pro-Amm range is loaded with slightly tougher bullets consisting of a dual core jacketed lead bullet. The front portion of the core is a bit softer than the rear section.

My PH uses it in 3006 with 180 grain bullets, I think he harvested something like 300 kudu with it. He grew up on a farm as a biltong hunter. Swears by the stuff.

Gentlemen,

I have used PMP 7mm Rem Mag ammunition when I was in Namibia. It was loaded with the 150 gr. Barnes X, and it worked perfect. The brass is very good for reloading as well.

Joel,

Are you sure it wasn't PMC? I know they load the X bullet.

Sorry I forgot. For a couple of years PMP loaded some ammo with Barnes Bullets. I believe that line has been discontinued although some of the ammo is still available.

I have used the 223 PMP in a Ruger 77.
This ammo would often give me .5" - .75" groups and always was under 1".

I also tried the American Eagle 223 in this rifle. I would average 1.5" - 2" groups.

The brass is good, but the bullets are soft and not very accurate. The loaded ammo is OK for plinking but I wouldn't use it for hunting anything larger than a dassie, assuming I could hit it.

The Pro-Amm ammo is reputedly a little better but after taking part in the Pro-Amm Benchrest shoots I am not convinced as to neither its accuracy or its efficacy. I can't get less than 2" groups in a rifle that puts my handloads into less than 3/4 MOA. Not good enough IMHO.

PMP have used the X-Bullet and continue to do so. I've not tried this ammo, so I can't comment.

Cheers
